hi, im looking to buy a fully loaded HP pavillion DV2000t.
i have several questions, and i would appreciate it if some of you DV owners could help me.
1. Is the casing scratch resistant? i remember reading in a few reviews that the casing is scratch resistant, but i have never seen HP mention that.
2. Does it have a DVD and a CD burner? ive heard that the DV6000 and DV9000 do, but i havnt heard anything about the DV2000 having a DVD/CD burner. I know they all have lightscribe though.
3. has anyone experienced lagging or freezing of any kind with the intel core 2 duo processors? My pentium M tends to freez alot (1.8GHZ) and it's the primary reason im shelling out the extra dough for a 2GHZ Core 2 duo.
4. how is the long term quality? has anyone had any issues with the DV2000(specifically)?
5. Is the TV tuner any good? the only reason i bought it is so that i could record shows from television or home videos from camera, and if possible, burn them on a DVD.
thanks!

Well, here's my take on the dv2000t for what it's worth:
1. My machine has some scratches that I don't have a clue how got there, so I'm going to say that if it's supposed to be scratch resistant that's one area where HP failed somewhat. That said, the build quality is excellent for a consumer-grade machine.
2. The dv2000t can be configured with one of three optical drives: a DVD/CD combo drive, that will only write to CDs, but will read both; a DVD/CD 8x burner, that will write to DVDs and CDs; and a lightscribe DVD/CD burner, that will write to DVDs and CDs, and provide lightscribe support.
3. No freezing on my Core 2 Duo T7200. Overall, it's incredibly fast, and great at multi-tasking.
4. I've only had my machine for a couple of months, but haven't had any issues so far. Like I said, the build quality seems way above average for a consumer-grade notebook, so I doubt there would be a higher-than-average long-term failure rate.
5. No idea. Until I can get a digital tuner I have no use for one.
Other advice:
HP is offering the Express Upgrade to Windows Vista, so if you want the free upgrade make sure you select either Windows XP MCE (to get an upgrade to Vista Home Premium) or Windows XP Pro (to get an upgrade to Vista Business). Unless you don't want Vista, then get whatever you want.
Also, many here would tell you to get the least amount of memory possible, then upgrade it yourself to save money. I don't know how much HP is charging right now for memory, but when I got mine the 2 GB upgrade wasn't that unreasonable, and HP does use 667 Mhz RAM on Core 2 Duo system.
Hope that helps. -
1) The HP Imprint finish is scratch resistant polycarbonate plastic, but the shiney dark finish shows fingerprints and smudges like you won't imagine.
2) You have 3 options with the DV2000T, a cd burner/dvd reader, a drive that can record CDs and DVDs (+,-,R,RW,DL), and a drive that burns CDs and DVDs, and performs lightscribe labelling.
3) No lagging or freezing that I have experience or heard about with the dual cores. Only glitch I've noticed is skipping songs in the latest version of iTunes, but I think thats a compatibility issue from Apple.
4) The laptop has a very solid build and seems like it should hold up for a good while. My computer had one of its 3 battery latches broken when I received it, so I shipped it back today to have that repaired. Only thing to watch out for is them using different components in everything they ship out, some optical drives, screens, etc are better than others.
5) I didn't opt for this so I can't comment. -
Just to clarify #1... scratch resistant is not the same thing as scratch proof. Unless your computer is made out of alloy steel, titanium, lead crystal or diamond, it's going to scratch if you try hard enough. It's more resistant to scratching than typical laptops, which is shown by the traditional plastic bottom having scratches when the upper case doesn't.

lol. ived used the turtle car wax on it and it made it shiny and fingerprints free for like a day only. then it came bak.

Well 1. My case is very scratch restiant. I haven't seen any scratches and have had it for about 2 months now. 2.It has both CD/DVD Burner.3. No lagging or freezing, everything boots up in an instant. The second you click it's there. And the startup is intinataneous as well, just a few seconds and everything is ready to go.4.Good quality, no flex, can pick it up from one side and it doesn't yield any flex.5. Cant help you with that, sorry.

thanks for the replies guys.
but i have another question, is the silver part of the DV2000 the exact same color as the dv6000? because i've noticed on Hp's website, when they show all the pavillions side by side, the silver (keyboard area) of the dv2000 looks a bit darker in color.
thanks! -
Theyre probably all the same. The silver on the DV2000 is pretty light.
