Both of those notebooks are terrific.

The DV6 is slightly better and may yield a little extra performance and product lifetime.

For basic browsing and home entertainment, both of these notebooks are more than ideal. However, they will future proof you for a long while.

I don't have time to browse other notebooks, but $600-800 is the starting price of good notebooks. I suggest the DV6.

MAKE SURE YOU BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTIES FROM HP WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR! YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU RUN INTO A PROBLEM! It's like an insurance plan. If this is your first notebook, then GET IT!

Thanks man. I got a Sager 5793 gaming system but this system is for the home and basic functions. Why do you recommend the DV6 over the G60? Is it because of the HD3200? Thanks.

I ended up buying the DV7-1245, because it was only 100 more (799 canadian) and was 17", bigger drive, nicer keyboard and appearence in general, somewhat better processor (Turion), extra gig of ram (at 4gb).

It was also on sale, $100 off (regular 899 CAD). We'll see how it runs. I have 14 days to return it.

I suggested the DV6 for only a few reasons. I used appeal, ports, functionality, and use as factors.

The DV6 is much more shinier and appealing (not probable). The DV6 has more USB ports, etc. It uses Vista Home Premium, which is better than Home Basic (I don't like vista in general).

I'm glad you got the DV7. I enjoy it. It's a little bigger, but much more screen space and way more manly. :)

Thanks infamous. I noticed that the DV7's screen is very bright and destroys my sager 5793 screen which I think is about 190 cd/m2.

Any idea what kind of screen the dv7 uses? Does it have dual lamps or something? LED backlit?
