Have you seen this?

Sorry, all I get is a 404 page error from that link.
-
Oh well, at least my drive came in last night. Will begin the process later on today.
Also, where is the "Intel Matrix Storage" located in XP's Device Manager? -
The Intel Matrix Storage Manager, if present, will show up as a program. I dont think it's presented in either Control Panel or Device Manager. It can be removed through Add/Remove programs in XP or Programs & Features in Win 7(assuming its the same as Vista).
If youre looking for it, and cant find it on your system, you probably didnt have it installed either.
....good luck with your upgrade and install. -
I don't see Intel Matrix storage anywhere. I guess it's not installed. lol..
~
But I did install Win7 last night and I must say it's been relatively smooth. Win7 detected the full size of the drive. No 127GB limitation that started this thread.
Win7 had updates for the following:
ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 [Display Adapter] - no aero, unfortunately
Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad
SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio
Intel(R) Pro/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
After entering my password for the wireless, it instantly detected my network and connected.
The HP Mobile Data Protection System appears as an unknown device in Win7
I haven't checked everything else but so far the only thing that doesn't work are the volume buttons opposite from the power switch. By chance, you wouldn't happen to know if the Vista driver would work for this? -
Ok…. good news then and it looks as if the new HDD and Win 7 install worked out for you. You should Rep Chrixx & KLF for sure.
I still think blindly trusting Win updates is a mistake but as we’ve said before, if Win 7 doesn’t have a driver for a device try the Vista 32 drivers from HP. This would apply to:
Video - Your X1300 card fully supports Vista Aero, so I’d suspect that you should be able to get that functioning. The HP driver version is 8.453.0.0000 dated 01/22/2008. Check that against what you have installed. At the very least you should have a Catalyst Control Panel somewhere. If you don’t, then Win 7 likely did not install a driver and therefore no Aero. You could also search around and perhaps find a more current catalyst driver.
Quick Launch Buttons - From HP
HD Mobile Data Protection (3D Drive Guard) - Try using the one KLF posted again below from HP. -
In Vista, Aero did not always work before once running the Performance index thingy. After that it was automatically activated. Maybe this is the same, or perhaps just trying to switch Aero theme on works. -
KLF playing shortstop again, .and a good thing
. The link actually came from Justins driver page for the HP dv6 Quad / dv7 Quad / dv8 / HDX16 / HDX18 here. It's listed there as supporting both Vista and Win 7. I didnt check the readme (my bad) but according to the CVA & HTML files youre correct, Its a stinking XP driver. I hate when that happens.
Ill pulled the link from the post and pushed to yours. Thanks -
Sorry for the mistake on Justin's thread, recently justin implemented tables for the drivers info and since it was a very hard work to implement probably some errors slept through. -
Axel . no worries! Justin does a great job with all the driver pages he maintains and booboos are bound to happen. I shouldve checked the driver like KLF did before I pushed it to another user. I just assumed that it would be correct and well . you know what they say about assume (= A$$ out of U and ME). Anyway, as long we all back each other up and keep it in the spirit of helping, no one should every take it personally.
Thanks for the post. -
When I ran the Win7 upgrade tool, it said my 128mb card wouldn't support aero. Since I never installed Vista on this machine, I have no idea whether it truly supports aero or not. I suspect Win7 installed a generic X1300 driver just to make it viewable.
"HP Quick Launch Buttons is an application that allows the use of multimedia buttons on they keyboard. Most computer keyboards and most recently laptops come with multimedia buttons and what are called quick launch buttons. HP Quick Launch Buttons is Hewlett Packard's software solution to enable and control the functions of the buttons included in their laptops and desktops. Once this tiny program is installed, an application sits in the tray and allows users to control the applications or action that a single button press will execute. On most laptops, the buttons controlled by this application are Quickplay, DVD, Rewind, Play/Pause, Fast-Forward, Stop, Mute, Volume Down and Volume Up. By default, the actions assigned to those buttons are self-explanatory. Quickplay will automatically open a Media Player of your choosing and DVD will start-up a DVD player. Or, on new models, if the computer is off, it will automatically go to a DVD player that is stored in the computer's BIOS, which saves the user the time that takes to boot up Windows to watch a DVD."

I never installed it since I don't use HP's multi-media software. The volume buttons are separate from that.

I did some comparison between Axel Foley's and my links, they are one and same driver. Only their description is changed, one has business class laptops and feature brand name is 3D Driveguard and the other has entertainment laptops with brand name HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection.
Both drivers have same version number and I downloaded both files and compared the contents. They are exactly same, only difference is that sp45501 includes sp44320's release notes as Word document.
I believe it doesnt matter which one you install, both should work -
Nobody took it personally, I just wanted to explain why it happened.
You're welcome... -
GWT . I dont know how you have things set for your video or what drivers you have (or have not) installed but your X1300 should run Aero without issue. I had a HP L2000 with the ATI 200m chipset and the X300 version of integrated graphics and only shared memory and it would run Aero in Vista. Your X1300 is an updated discrete mobile version of the X1000 that runs at the same speeds as the X300 but has 128MB of onboard memory + shared memory + full support for DirectX 9c and Shader 3.0. It should have no problems with Aero. Check here.
-
No sign of the catalyst panel. I tried Googling for the latest X1300 driver and haven't come up with anything other than the version that was in my XP build that I mentioned up above.
I did get the volume buttons to work, though. The mute was turned on but the mute indicator light for it near my keyboard wasn't lit. I went into the service tray and found the speaker icon, saw the little slash through it and now it works. lol... -
I dont know how I forgot this little thing called ATI (AMD). My nc8430 has x1600 and it did indeed have some challenges at first.
First, download correct driver from AMD website:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_vista32.aspx
Then download Mobility Modder: http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php and follow it's instructions.
Seriously, I should have remembered this -
So, did you download the full software suite? Or just the WDM Integrated Driver?
Should a proper, native Win7 driver appear for this card in the coming months (and that's a big if), there shouldn't be a issue updating to it, do ya think?
~
Of course, if something should happen, I'm gonna prolly have to go back to a previous restore point if I can't roll back the driver in Win7. I'll have to look and see how that's done since I'm new to this OS. -
As AMD states at that download page, no x1x00 -series cards are supported with Win7. So no native support ever, we have to get along with Vista drivers instead (and mod them to work with laptops). Luckily most advances related to Win7 display drivers are such as using two different brands of display adapters (like AMD and Intel, or Nvidia) in same computer. Not really going to happen under normal use.
I haven't found much use for the Control panel in the full software suite. It just eats huge amounts of CPU time. -
KLF . just wondering, but why does GWT need to use Mobility Modder when Vista 32 specific graphic drivers for his notebook are available from HP? Couldnt he just have run the driver installer through Win 7 or have done a manual install via device manager and the available 32bit inf file using the extracted HP supplied ATI 8.453 / Vista 32 driver here?
Is it just that its not the newest ATI driver or will the driver above just not work with Win 7? Was this the same with your nc8430? -
Way to go, AMD
Do I go with the modded driver that KLF mentioned? Or do I use 32bit Vista one at HP's website? -
Oh and I also ordered another 2GB stick from Crucial for the bottom slot. It will bring my 32bit machine up to 3GB of ram. If I'm gonna run aero, I'm probably gonna need it.
-
Either it was some complications or just performance issue. I did run World of Warcraft few times with that laptop so every fps counts.
I just bought that card, because old 1MB card was incompatible with my 3dfx voodoo card. They just stated that "drivers shipped in Win98 are good enough", when they definitely were not
Now over 10 years later I have bought only 1 ATI product intentionally (HD3450 for this computer I now type on), rest few have come as integrated chipsets (like the x1600).
http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php
4: Run the downloaded driver, let it extract into c:/ATI/SUPPORT - but cancel the installation once the driver is extracted.
5: Run Mobility Modder - browse to the driver in C:ATI/SUPPORT/ - an example of Catalyst 7.4 would be C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985 - hit modify. Wait until driver is modified.
6: In Vista, go to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985 (Or whatever the driver installation folder was called), and run the SETUP.EXE. Please note you might see a "Driver is not WHQL certified", ignore this, as it is a side effect of the modification.
Just substitute Vista with Windows 7 in those instructions and you are good to go -
I also installed another stick of RAM down in the bottom bay.
Now if I can only get rid of those sh!tty shortcut arrows... -
So….
New HDD, more RAM, and WIN 7 on your NC6400. Mission complete then?
If you find the time, it might be helpful to any that may follow if you started a new thread titled “NC6400 & Win 7” or something easy to find in a search. Specifically, I'm sure it would be useful if you posted your unit specs, how the installation process went, what drivers you needed or did not need to install, how the notebook performs using the new OS, and if you have any unresolved problems.
At-any-rate, just a thought and I'm glad it all worked out for you!
.....and it only took you a month. -
And since I've been using XP and Linux for the last three years without even getting into that POS Vista, Win7 will take some getting used to.
I appreciate everybody's help, thanks. -
Good deal .. Ill look forward to reading the new thread.
Guess you can update your sig now too.
