It just started today, when my wireless stopped working and the button stayed orange even in the "on" position. I went into Device Manger and noticed that my Broadcom card is no longer detected.![]()
Looks like I've finally been hit with the dreaded overheating system board that has plagued the dv6000 series since inception. I had Bios F.3D installed since it was released, but I guess it was just a temporary band-aid fix.
Core Temp has been running today, giving me an idle temp of around 45C with the A/C on (which is pretty normal for this unit). Given that, I'll assume that the heat damage was slowly incurring over time.
It is rather ironic, as I had a sinking feeling this was going to happen soon. Even though the temps are normal, the fan has been cycling oddly for the past week.
I have an incoming CQ50Z that I bought and will set up for my nephew, now I have to decide whether I should order another CQ50Z or a DV5Z for myself as replacement for this 6-series turd. Decisions, decisions.....![]()

You do realize there is a repair program...I believe your notebook and your problem is a easy warranty replacement.

Besides that, my unit is a little "un-stock". I'm running a 7200rpm drive (which was not available), non-HP ram and a modified Vista install. The original parts have since been donated to others' units and therefore unrecoverable. I'm probably better off with new, considering the conditions & possibility of lost parts. I still have my old V5000Z as backup anyway, which had a much better build quality to me (contrary to the majority of NBR users at the time). At least it is still fully functioning without issues.
I just hope my aunt's dv2200 does not do this anytime soon, or I'll never live it down. Her's is 15 months old and runs a tad warmer than mine......

Very odd, my wireless card is suddenly working today and has reappeared in Device Manager.
Is this a good sign, or just indicative of the symptoms?Attached Files:

Didnt wanna give you false hope
. Its just my observations from past cases.
But who knows, stay optimistic.
Looks like my dv6400 is failing......
