When I installed Win 7 64 Ultimate on my HP/Compaq Presario V6719NR (a few months ago) it immediately (upon reboot) stopped recognizing my CD/DVD drive (lightscribe supermulti 8x dvd+±r rw with double layer support). It was Vista 64 from the factory and this was a copy I bought at Best Buy as HP wasn't (or I couldn't find it) an upgrade version for this machine, nor the drivers/bios etc.

The drive still gets power, as I can push the button and the lights will flash and the door will open/slide out. The BIOS seems to still recognize it as it will allow me to choose it as one of my boot options (but it will not actually go to that drive once chosen, it will just hang for a bit then continue).

Again, it did work before and up until the Win 7 OS installation. I used it to install from!

Any ideas? I tried finding drivers for it at the HP site but everything they do have only supports XP or Vista and won't run/work. I have also been looking all over the place trying to find out a better version of the drives name and manufacturer, also with out much luck besides the above (lightscribe supermulti 8x dvd+±r rw with double layer support) at the hp site which was the only thing listed in the specs under cd/dvd drive.

    Thanks for your time!

Edit: The device manager does not show any cd/dvd drive on the system.

To rule out hardware issues, can you boot from the installation disc again? If that works, it's more likely something wrong inside windows.

Thanks for the tip. I am looking for the Windows CD and will let you know if it is still a problem!
