Okay...This seems pretty straightforward. I have lost the hibernate function on my laptop, that I was quite fond of using to preserve the battery. Anyway can anyone tell me how to retrieve this wonderful function?

Right click Desktop > Properties > Screensaver > Power... > Hibernate > Enable Hibernation.

Also, if you lose the ability to enable hibernation, it's generally a sign that Windows has detected a hardware or driver problem (either a driver or piece of hardware has failed, is not installed correctly, etc...). If the hardware cannot enter into different power modes, Windows will prevent standbys and hibernations.

Right click My Computer > Manage > Device Manager

Look for anything with a yellow mark next to it, find out what it is, and then try to get the drivers installed and running.

If Hibernation is enabled, but you don't see the Hibernate option on the shutdown menu, don't forget to hold the shift key. Microsoft released a fix that forces Hibernate to appear no matter what, so that might help:

Ok...Unfortunately when using the right click desktop icon advice there was no info on enabling hibernation. And also upon checking if drivers were installed properly all appear to be in working condition. I am running vista so will the hibernation patch for XP help me. Also I noticed my hibernation first disappeared after installing Itunes

With vista it looks nothing like the pic above. This is killing me I can find the option anywhere. (shaking my fists in anger)

To enable hibernation in Vista bring up the Command Prompt by click on "Start Button" then in the "Start Search" field type CMD and press enter.

In the Command prompt type: POWERCFG -H ON

This will enable the hibernate option

Okay that would seem to work, but when I entered the prompt it told I did not have permission to enable or disable the hibernate feature.
This is a personal pc so there is no administrator
