I'm having two problems right now. It first started with my hard drive being a lot louder than when I first got it and it seems like it is constantly spinning or something. I tired doing a fresh clean minimal install and that did nothing. I have no idea why it is so much louder now and I don't remember it being like that before. So after I installed everything again my computer is now running hotter than it was before. It is at least 10 degrees hotter than it was before at 50-53 just browsing the web when it was 35-40 before. I remember when I first got my laptop it was running around these higher temperatures but then there was an update which seemed to drop the core temps significantly. I have no idea what is going on any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

What that mean. When the temperatures get hotter, the computer switches to the integrated graphics? I thought they were on the integrated graphics naturally and only switched when you played games.

For the record I have the same problem. I feel as if my laptop is too noisy, and sometimes makes strange ticking noises. I haven't had any other problems so far, and I've already cleaned my vents.

Dynamic switching is buggy. Just switch to manual. Keep it on the intel for browsing and switch to the 6770 for gaming.

Thanks for the help. Switching to manual seemed to fix that problem. Now does anyone have any ideas about the hard drive? Could something have gone bad in it? It is really loud.

    Wouldn't surprise me.
I recommend replacing with a good SSD.

Yeah that's what i was thinking of doing, not just for the speed but because of the noise this thing makes. I just have to save up a little bit. Do you think hp would replace it under warranty? It passes the hard drive test so I'm not sure.

If it passes the hard drive test i am not sure but you might be able to get it swapped because of the noise.

Press F10 when booting to enter BIOS. Set switching method to Fixed. After that you can manually switch the GPU in windows by right click Desktop and select Configure Switchable Graphics.

What part of the BIOS is the switching method in? I have BIOS Version F.13 by the way.

Yeah that was the problem. I looked through all the menus and there wasn't any option for switchable graphics. In fact there weren't that many options in general. Outside of standard things like password, fan usage, and action buttons, I could hardly change anything.

Only the F.1A or F.1B BIOS versions have it. Upgrade!
