I recently purchased a hp dv9235nr which comes standard w/ 2gb of ram. When I check my Windows Experience Index score it appears that my ram is limiting the system with a score of only 4.3. Isn't that really low for 2gb of ram? I saw some other sites where people got scores of 4.5 with only 1gb of ram, does anyone have any idea what might be going on? Thanks!

I have 2GB RAM in a dv6000t and get a 4.5 on the Memory quotient. Where mine falls down is on the NVIDIA 7400 which measures a not-so-great 3.3 on gaming graphics. The desktop performance is only a 3.7, and I would have expected it to be in the high 4's, at least. From what I've read, NVIDIA's drivers are not yet tweaked for Vista.
This is the way my system stacks up:
Component Details Subscore Base score
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T5600 @ 1.83GHz 4.8 3.3
Determined by lowest subscore
Memory (RAM)2.00 GB 4.5
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 3.7
Gaming graphics 399 MB Total available graphics memory 3.3
Primary hard disk 119GB Free (142GB Total) 4.9
Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium -
I have a new 9000 with 2Gb of RAM, and my Windows Experience is 4.5.
The RAM is the lowest score, which to me is surprising. You would think this laptop would be a smoker!Attached Files:

Windows Experience Index tests RAM speed more than RAM amount. So having 2GB of RAM does not automatically get you a high score.

Did your notebook come with the 2GB RAM installed or did you add it?
I just bought the dv6253 this week (with 2 GB RAM) and it earns these scores:
processor: 4.6
RAM: 5.9
graphics: 3.1
gaming graphics: 3.0*
hard disk: 4.3
A lot higher ram score for the same amount of ram.
My gaming graphics (nVidia6150) were originally rated at 2.6 and I was pretty sad about that. But yesterday someone showed me how to update a score. He turned off the screensaver then asked windows to "Update my score" . The score increased and did not drop again after reinstating the screensaver.
I tried this when I got home and my lowest score (gaming) improved to 3.0, where it has stayed.
So it couldn't hurt to try something like that, changing something that might use ram and updating your score. -

CPU could affect the ram score if I'm not mistaking. IE if you have 2mb l2 cache (t5600 and lower) compared to 4mb l2 cache in the t7200 and up cpus.

The processor for the dv6253cl is a 1.6 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-52.
So, unless I'm missing something (which is entirely possible), the HP with the faster processor has a lower RAM score (4.5) than the HP (5.9) with the slower processor and they both have the same amount of memory (2GB) and the same speed memory (PC2-5300).
Even if the poster mistyped his RAM score and should have typed 4.9 instead of 5.9, it is still higher. -
WEI scores for RAM seem to favor AMD processor systems across the board. I would imagine this is due to lower latencies of the on-chip memory controller.
Here's two systems in my house with the same RAM score:
Notebook: Intel C2D T7200 w/ 2 GB DDR2-667 RAM
PC: AMD A64 3500 w/ 1 GB DDR-400 RAM
Both get a 4.5 RAM score. Go figure. -
Sorry, was on my way out and didn't notice that.
Whether or not the scores represent actual real world performance, I could not tell you. -
Just got my dv9500t, and its runnign very slow in most applications the WEI score for RAm is the lowest with only 3.1 ...I have a PC Core 2 Duo T5 2.2 Ghz and 2 GB RAM ...but still these two are the lowest of my scores, suggesting the slowness of the PC might be related to a problem in them?
Any ideas? -
With my rig, my memory score is the highest for me, 5.9 (!)
Processor AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 4.7
Memory (RAM) 1.87 GB 5.9
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 3.4
Gaming graphics 623 MB Total available graphics memory 3.0
Primary hard disk 94GB Free (141GB Total) 4.9
I would attribute this to the on-die memory controller of the AMD. Intel tries to compensate by having larger L2 cache, but apparently in this benchmark, doesn't make much of a difference. -
The real answer to your problem is that you are looking at the wrong benchmark. WEI is a piece of crap, junk non-industry-standard bench that is as crappy as you could possibly imaging. My WEI scores, when compared to others, really don't align well at all. I had a machine that was 1/2 as powerful as mine get a higher score! It all boils down to software and driver quality...that is it!
Look at PCMark and 3dMark benchmarking suites to see if you really are okay or not. -
Things to keep in mind:
- there is no industry benchmark out there, although there are favourites/established ones
- it is possible to fake W.E.I. scores; I read somewhere you just need to edit an HTM file
- one of the reasons for benchmarking is to determine if one's system is optimized with the right settings and versions of drivers -
-
i think the whole microsoft score benchmark is bogus. don't rely on it too much

Compaq v6420 with a score of dismayed 2.4
Processor - 4.6
Memory - 5.2
Graphic - 3.0
Gaming Graphics - 2.4 (I can't figure out why)
Primary Hard Disk - 4.9 -

You have to remember that the Vista score is on ram speed, not amount.
And on the speed scale, the santa rosa memory bus is 667, fastest stuff on the market is 1333 and that's why the experience score is low, max score possible is 6.
my 8510w w 4gb gets a 4.8 on mem, everything else is in the mid to high 5s -
