    Hello To All,
I am upgrading a friends Presario M2000 that was XP Home with 512 ram 60GB hard drive.

I've upgraded the OS to XP PRO SP3 and ram is now 2GB.
All is fine except the last twenty times I try to turn off the computer, I get the little icon on the upper right corner of the Turn Off button
(the one in the middle of 'Stand By' 'Turn Off' and 'Restart'.)

This is supposed to happen after a fresh download from Windows update. Except this is happening without a web connection.

I keep chosing Turn off and it goes through the routine of "Don't turn off the computer, it is updating...step 1 of 3, and so on."

Can anyone shed any light on this? I have upgraded about a dozen laptops recently with SP3 and have not had this problem.

When I give this back to my buddy, I would prefer him to be awed with the lighting speed it has, compared to before, and no problem question's I can't answer.

    Thanks,
    Chetanji

    Thanks for the quick reply,

This is just a tad off subject, but do you know if it is possible to add a bluetooth card to the motherboard of a M2412EA which is this model of M2000?

I would also like to upgrade the AMD CPU as well, but the HP web site does not mention any upgrades like these two.

Although it does show a graphic on how to replace a defective bluetooth card.

    Thanks,
    Chetanji

I've turned off and started the lapdog several times and everything's normal.

I had done installs of probably 10 new programs with several Windows updates and perhaps even after several reboots, the remainder of the installs still have a 'turn off' setup, or two, to go. Who knows?
I simply have never seen this carry on so long. And with the update from 512 to 2GB, and from Home to PRO SP3, it just seemed like too much update at one time.
Perhaps, there is some common sense built into some MS products to handle wild, no holds barred setup, at times.

I will have to pull apart the laptop as the there is nothing telling me if the model simply omitted the bluetooth card or there actually is no space for it, nor a connector and capability with the motherboard. The manual shows there is a place, but before ordering the Bluetooth I must look.

The idea of the best AMD CPU in place of the existing is worth looking for as well. How to find the information for these things? Especially, being several years old. I noticed the first posts for the M2000 just delivered was 2005.

    Thanks for your help.
This laptop moves right along now with 2GB and a bigger hard drive will only make it perform better.

    Blessings,
    Chetanji

    From the service manual:

For BT, Youll have to open the top cover and check for the physical slot.

I didnt even know the M2000 was capable of 2gb. Mine only has 256mb lol

Actually, I put 2GB in because that was all I figured my buddy would pony up when I give it back to him. I'm pretty sure it will take two 2GB SoDIMM's.
I am upgrading a Lenova 3000 G410 from 512 to 2 GB and that is all the manual and web site say it will take.
Laptops can be almost like a workstation with all the upgrades you can do now or they can be so limited. It is not a level playing field yet.

About BT, doesn't there have to be a physical way to turn it on? Like a separate button? And thanks flipfire for the link to HP's manual.

    Blessings,
    Chetanji

    Enjoyed your guide to undervolting!

I would upgrade to at least 1GB mem. It doesn't cost that much and makes quite the difference.

Yeah the manual says 1gb max, the latest BIOS update must have unlocked 2gb support or something

As for the BT, the physical switch is combined with the wireless button. If you wanna disable BT seperately youll have to do it software side

EDIT: Ive decided on spending $50 on upgrades (CPU and RAM)

    Hoping to get a Pentium M 755 1.8ghz and 1gb RAM
