With no detailed spec from AMD. Just as usual. AMD always make fans guessing.

Possibly a typo? K is lower than L so whatever MK-36 is, it might take up more power.

It's not a typo. It's a singlecore, Socket S1 2GHz chip. I'd stick with the ML series dualcores, TL52 and higher.

I wonder what's the purpose of this CPU. Is it low cost alternative to dualcores, with possible upgrade later?

If my guess is right, it possible provide virtualization in this chip that similar to Intel Hyperthread. That is the only difference from new Sempron S1 64bit. The strange thing is the TPD is so high, 31W=2 cores TPD. What makes it so costly?

Besides, I really like ML-37 although it is 35W based. Hope this MK-36 will perform as good as ML-37.

Vrstualization is not equal to Hyperthreading.Virtualization is basically hardware support for running virtual OS(vmware...). The MK 36 is possibly there for marketing reasons. More people would buy a "high end" Turion system rather than if the same processor was named as a Sempron. It is also there to compete with the Core Solo.

I've been seeing this in computers advertised at Fry's and haven't been able to find out any information on it, either...

See a Sempron had been just a Turion with less cache. Thesedays, there is very little distinction. So a S1 Turion64 @ 2.0GHz, 512K cache = S1 Sempron64 @ 2.0GHz, 512K cache. No difference in performance what so ever. The only difference is the model name/number.

It is basically a single core Turion64 running @ 2.0GHz with 512K cache. It hsa a TDP of 31W(according to AMD spec sheet). Performance will be in the same range as a Turion ML 37.

This is how AMD confused me so much. If there is not much difference what so ever, then why this one is spec. such a high TDP vs Sempron only has 25W? If you call that is marketing number, I would say it is a bad move.
