hey guys, i have a MAJOR problem at the moment, a capacitor that was sitting next to my CMOS battery was too loose and fell off in my DV6 3160us, i have it however places around where i live are willing to replace it but i need to know which capacitor i need exactly, i know its 2.5v but i need more info on it, and is it fixable? seems theres no other damage done besides of it falling out and plus the laptop is still being charged its just it refuses to boot up however power LED still responds, but anyways it should be an easy soldering job from the professionals right? i sure hope so, help me out, thanks!

Here are some of the pictures of that capacitor

First, unplug it. Then remove the battery. Let it sit and maybe hold the power button to de-charge the board. Then, I'm curious why you even had it open to begin with to knock off a cap. The leads shouldn't be that flimsy that it just falls off without contact.

Next, if you find out what capacitor it is, you can resolder on a new cap relatively easy if you have any idea how to solder. If you don't, the repair shop should find out what cap it is for you and replace it. To find out what cap it is, go to the forums over at badcaps.net or .com. They're VERY knowledgable. If you give them all the numbers and what not on the board they should be able to tell you what replacement you need to order from digi-key. The cap should be very cheap. The repair won't be, but if you do it yourself it should be cheap.

Let's hope you didnt damage anything by trying to brute force your computer I to working without that cap. Chance are, you should be fine.

Thanks, the board was brought from ebay Nd telling from the damage it was dropped by the last owner although it was on there for awhile and it worked fine but overtime with heat I guess it just came undone idk pretty bizzare but I've seen other people have a random thing happen like that, ill check out the forum you showed me, seen it quite around never got into it though, thanks

If anyone else has suggestions please post
