Okay, on your pc there are a few different power settings. The three main are Power Saver, HP Recommended and High Performance. Basically there is a huge difference in your performance when using these settings. Unless you are on high performance settings your processor will be ****. My clock speed is 2400MHz when I am using High Performance, and only 800MHz when I am on either Power Saver or HP Recommended. Make sure that you run with those settings or else your processor will be mad slow. Hope I helped out at least on member of these forums.

Well, the HP recommended(Balance) setting basically sets your cpu to idle at 800MHz and it should increase to its max as and when necessary. Running at High performance is pretty much wasted energy since if you are just surfing the web or doing some light work, you dont really need all that performance. Thats why balance(HP recommended) dynamically changes your cpu speed. Pretty much the ideal setting in many ways. You get decreased power consumption and lower heat output while it still retains the full performance. Any disadvantage is only minute compared to running at full speed all the time.

As for as Power saver profil is oncerned I agree with you as the name suggests, its basically used to extend battery life while running on batteries and if you want to minimize heat from the system. My recommendation would be to run at HP recommended and only use high performance when necessary.
