I don't know if this is purely a coincidence or a possible reason, but after doing a virus check with prevx2 (highly recommended virus checker), and deleting 3 instances of malware, the integrated webcam has worked flawlessly. Before this it would work sporadically.

Logically i don't know how this could have worked, but it appears to have fixed the vista/hp webcam problem.

I hope this has the same result for many other frustrated hp webcam users!

(nb. no other virus checker found this problem eg avast, AVG)

    bump!

as there are so many people with webcam issues i think it would be wise if a few people tried downloading prevx2.0 and checked to see if the malware could have been the issue. (i also did a full Ad-aware check at the same time and removed everything it found)

it is quite possible that the malware could have been interfering with the webcam hardware, and since i've still not seen the camera go off/not be recognised, even after numerous restarts, i think more people should give it a go!

write back if u have any success

i want to know whether it was just a fluke or a potential fix! if malware has been causing the hp webcam problem then hp have reason for concern!
