    Hi,

I've got a massive problem with my dv2000. I've had it for just over a year i think. I just pulled the monitor down so it would go into sleep mode. A couple of hours later i pulled it back up, the lights came on, the hard drive came on as i can see hd light flashing doing its business but it just stops. Nothing comes on the monitor at all at any time and there is a one off loud bleep sound. The lights on the laptop continue on but nothing happens. It does this every time i turn it back on. Any help?

start by removing the battery and disconnect power for a minute or so and try again

I tried removing the battery and adapter for a while and putting it back on but it's still the same. There was no image at all while connecting up with my home pc's monitor, did this a couple of times but still the same.

If you have a bootable disc you might want to try that, because you may have a virus if you're lucky.

If its not a virus, you may have one of the notebook that is plagued by the "dead GPU" problem. The upside is you should still be covered for repair as HP extended the standard warranty an extra year to cover those that run into this problem.

Try reseating the memory modules. if that doesn't work, try removing the 2nd memory module. if that doesn't work, remove the first memory module and replace it with the second memory module. If THAT doesn't work....

If that doesn't work then double check the beep. DV2000s usually fail with 1 long and 2 short beeps (Indicates a GPU failure). If it really is just one long continuous beep then you can also take the notebook apart and make sure the keyboard cables are firmly attached. Otherwise it's some kind of system board failure.

Beep Codes most closely resembling what you describe:

No beep Power supply or system board problem

Continuous beep Power supply, system board, or keyboard problem

3 long beeps 3270 keyboard card

1 long, 2 short beeps Display adapter problem (MDA, CGA)

Yes, I deserve Rep for this. lol.

P.S. Some of the DV2000's are covered under an extended warranty, you'll have to check your serial # and match it up with the list on HPs site.

Yeah it's 1 long and 2 short beeps. Must be GPU problem then. F***!
