It uses DDR2 533 MHz, but any DDR2 RAM will work.

HP lists max RAM as 2 GBs, but I wouldn't be surprised if 4 worked as well.

I can confirm 4gb's works. Well i cant remember exactly if it only read between 3-4gb's of ram. First thing do you have an AMD or intel system? If you have an AMD then you use ddr1 if you have an intel then you use ddr2. The intel systems only came with core duos which were 32 bit cpu's but the laptop is socket M and you can upgrade to a core 2 duo. Both of my dv8000 ran core 2 duo t5300 and t5500 cpu's and were running 64 bit vista. Im pretty sure they both reconised the whole 4gb's they had but only because i have 64 bit which chances are you dont. If you have any other questions on dv8000's i know alot about them and have worked on a few too.

Use CPUz to check what type of memory your system uses. Post a screen shot or just type out your results.

We dont really need a cpu-z screen shot really all we need to know if its AMD or intel. Intel=ddr2 Amd=ddr1. And the speed of the memory dosent really matter either im pretty sure it can only run 667mhz max conisdering thats the speed of the fsb but it could be 533mhz im not really sure. Regardless it will run even 800mhz ddr2 ram just not at 800mhz it will run it as fast as it can.

That will work but again i dont think you will get to use all 4gb's of ram due to 32bit OS/CPU you will be able to get around 3-4gb's but if your running XP you should be just fine.

    Yes I know that I will see/use only ~3.2gb ram on 32bit
    Thanks
