    Hey

I'm having a problem with my new HP laptop which I'm hoping somebody can help with.

I bought a HP 510 (2.14GHz proc model with 512 RAM). The XP Home which came pre-installed lasted about 48 painful hours before I moved across to XP Pro (with a Ubuntu dual boot to follow in time). Since I changed OS, despite installing the latest HP Video drivers for XP Pro, I've noticed that the screen resolution seems to be limited to 1024x768 instead of the native maximum of 1280x800 I had before the reinstall.

Does anybody know how I can resolve this? I've been unable to find any information on either the HP site or the various sites/forums I've looked at. The only other thing I can think of is to have a go at installing the XP Home Video drivers, but I'm a bit suspicious as to how compatible they're likely to be (and also think it's fairly unlikely that HP wouldn't provide support for the larger size on the more popular OS) Any help would be much appreciated.

    Cheers.

I've just noticed that there are some power management features missing as well, for example the option to hibernate when I shut the lid. All the drivers from the Dell website have been installed I believe, with the exception of the WLAN Assistant.

Sorted it. Just in case anybody should stumble over this post in the future looking for the same fix, I downloaded the chipset drivers straight from Intel, this resolved both problems. My system hadn't even recognised the video drivers I downloaded from the HP (not Dell, my bad) website, as it turns out.

HP Support incidently didn't bother reading my e-mail properly, suggested I reinstall Windows because dual boot wasn't advised, and gave me a link to drivers for entirely the wrong laptop. Nice to see that laziness and ****wittery are alive and well in Support centres everywhere.

    Cheers.
