I dropped my dv2000t Pavilion laptop and now the dvd tray won't open. Maybe I need to replace the tray. I need to take the laptop apart and I wonder does anybody know where there are instructions on disassembly of the laptop. Also, how can I buy parts to replace broken parts?

    TIA Bill S.

If only the dvd drive is damaged, you dont need to open whole laptop. There should be one screw in the bottom that has icon next to it, like a stack of cd discs. Take that screw out and then pull the dvdrw out of the laptop.

Examine the drive: it could be working but the bezel might be damaged, preventing opening the drive. Besides you need the old bezel for the new drive anyways to have it completely fit your laptop.

(forgive me if I'm wrong, dont have my lappy in front of me) Don't the drives also have the pinhole to manually release the tray? Try that as well, as it could just be something stuck, which once unstuck may return functionality.

(a nice story: I was out to do a HP setup for third party EU, and while getting her wifi setup she announced that her 1st DVD drive never opened and the second DVD had never worked - manual release worked on the 1st, looked inside the case for the 2nd - and with all the cords nicely cable tied off, it was so tight in clearances that it had pulled out of the 2nd drive - like "magic" I got her 2nd drive working ;) )
