No, this cable should only work on the Pavilion ZX/ZV/ZD Series, Presario R3000 Series & possibly the NX9500 series.
This plugs into a special port on the side of the above series notebooks. Below is a picture of the port on the ZX5000. It's just left of the ethernet port. The ZT3000's don't have this port.

on the web site the media cable has a 50$ instant rebate, so its now 19.99$ I think. Is it worth buying? I have S-video wire and a audio wire for the stero is there anything else that makes it worth it?

I don't think there's anything special about the cable, I think it just has RCA out for video & audio & also (maybe) an SVideo out as well. I'd stick with your current setup.

As a zx5000 series owner, I bought this cable because I am sure that if I need it in the future, it will not be available from hp's website. Or worse, if I need it, the rebate will no longer apply and I'll be angry with the $69.99 pricetag. Keep in mind, I also bought the hp noteook expansion base for similar reasons (but $150 cheaper than hp tried to get people to pay).

If you take a look at hp's information, you'll see that there is a USB connection at the end of the cable as well as the A/V connections. That might be useful...

    Hello All,
Just got my HP ZV5000 notebook and I also got the xc1000 media cable.
I connect the cable to the notebook and to the TV using the Composite video, boot up the notebook, The sound comes thru to the TV but not the video. I do get a flash of the screen on the TV when I press the fn and the external monitor key. What am I missing?
BTW: A friend of mine also has this setup and his does the same.
    Thanks in advance.

You may want to tap the Fn+External Monitor key a few times slowly. On my Toshiba, I have to do the same thing. Fn+Tap, wait a couple seconds & then Fn+Tap again before it goes to the TV. I think it's trying to switch between multiple modes. 1st tap may try to goto the external RGB (monitor) connector, 2nd tap should take it to TV, 3rd tap should display on both TV/monitor & notebook & 4th tap should return to just monitor. This is how it is on my Toshiba, so I'm sure it'll work the same on your HP.

OH GOD!!! So i am not the only one having an issue with my zv5000!!! It does the exact same thing with me and flickers on the screen for a second but the sound streams just fine. I've tried the hp tech support line but it kinda gets redundant when you have to talk to many different people and tell them each your address, serial#,product#, etc. just so that they can transfer you to another person to tell you exactly what the last said. So i thought i might come to a forum and see if i can get any assistance. Can anybody suggest a fix for this issue for me and i am sure many others out there?! If anybody can give me a fix other than powering off/on laptop/tv then it would be much appreciated.

ps the fn+f4 only serves to make the screen flash the monitor and the manuals offer no type of support. What should i do?!

    Endymion,

Have you tried my suggestion a few posts up about lowering the screen resolution first? This worked on my Toshibas.

    So I am curious,

If I understand correctly, the only real advantage to having this new cable is so you don't have to have separate S-video and sound cables going from the lappy to the TV / home theater inputs. Is that a correct assumption, or is there something I'm overlooking (other than I guess there is a USB connector there, but I haven't seen many TVs or receivers with USB connectors on them)?

    Thnx and cheers,

    Stevo
