    Hey Guys-
I'm tearing out my hair trying to upgrade the memory in my HP ZD7000. This is my first laptop and thus my first time upgrading a laptop. I've messed w/ desktop hardware for years and I don't understand why this is so hard.
I currently have 2 sticks of 256mb and want to upgrade to 2 sticks of 512mb. I initially ordered this memory:

    http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-484&depa=0

After that didn't work, I thought that the problem was that I didn't order the HP specific memory so I ordered this:

    http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-119&depa=0

The second set of memory didn't work either so I'm stumped. Both sets of memory exhibited the same problems. When I turn the laptop on with the new memory installed, the power comes on, the processor fans spin, but I get a completely black screen. The specs on both sets of memory are 200-pin DDR SDRAm 512mb PC27000 Non-ECC Unbuffered.

    TIA
    -Chris

I would give Kingston a shot. Kingston memory seems to work on more systems than any other memory.

    X6000 / P-4 3.2GHz (540) / 2gigs PC2 4200 (533MHz) DDR2 Ram / 7200RPM 60 gig HHD / 8x DVD Burner and the Brightview!

I hope you have found an answer by now, but if not maybe this will help. I have a zd7000 CTO. I recently upgraded my (2) 256 chips for (2) 512. I bought them from Crucial. They were CT326691 512MB 200-PIN SODIMM 64MX64 DDR PC2700 NON-ECC.

I have had great luck with Crucial in the past and this time was not exception. I popped them in Christmas morning and they worked fine. :)

You may want to wait a bit. I can’t believe how low the 1gig chips are getting. Crucial has them for $205.99 now. If they drop a little more I may upgrade again.

    Good Luck

I got two 1GB PNY Sticks from newegg two weeks ago. Under $190USD with shipping added for both sticks. They're working fine so far. My zd7200 CTO recognized them right away.
