Ok, I read all the post about upgrading the memory in the zv5000v. I thought the issue had been resolved with the latest BIOS. However, ever since I put the recommended Crucial memory in my laptop....I get BSODs several times a day. Of course my laptop shipped with the 256MB Infinion chip.

Anyone else still haveing memory troubles? I am getting the following BSOD each crash:

    Machine_Check_Exception
    Stop: 0x0000009c (0x00000004, 0x80545ffd, 0xb2000000, ox00070f0f)

That's a new one... Crucial using Micron chips, right? (Crucial is Micron's retail arm.) Crucial was using Infineon chips for a short while, as I had the misfortune to find out, it failed when paired with the existing 256MB Infineon stick. If you told Crucial you have a zv5000z and they didn't send you Micron chips, they messed up, call them and tell them you need a Micron-based SODIMM. Consider replacing the existing 256MB Infineon stick while you're at it but an Infineon/Micron pair should work.

agree, if there is a problem with the ram, they should at the very least warrenty it and send you another stick, I agree crucial is the safest way to go on the memory. I'd also agree if you every have the money get rid of that 256MB and replace it with another crucial 512MB. You are correct though, i doubt its a bios problem, you might want to check your bios version just to make sure when you tried to install the latest it really did get installed and didn't have any problems.

I meant to ask....this notebook can be stable with two sticks of Crucial (Micron) RAM?

My Crucial is a micron chipset. Unfortunately I have a deadline to meet and can't take the time to deal with techsupport...at least for a couple of days. So, I have the HP Infinion 256MB and the Crucial (micron) 512MB. My Bios is F21.

I can stress out my laptop for hours at a time and all is fine. It only crashes when I do simple things...like surf the web, make cd labels, etc. Really strange to me and I have dealt with computers and their problems for years. Why would a computer only crash when it isn't being stressed? I have my power setting to always on...so, I don't think the voltage to the memory is dipping.

I have a pair of Crucial/Micron PC2700 512MB SODIMMs. It's stable as a rock. Others have vouched for the PC3200 variety, which is what I currently recommend (there was a substantial price premium for PC3200 when I purchased my memory).

I recommend removing the Infineon stick and replacing it with the Crucial/Micron. Dump the Infineon on eBay (it'll work fine in Intel notebooks with their lower performance external memory controllers) and add a second Crucial/Micron at your leisure. If you need help getting to the internal memory slot, there are instructions here.

I guess Infineon stays on my "Never buying again" list... still, HP needs a good whack with the cluestick for still using the things and not fixing their BIOS (likely all that is needed to make Infineons work right) like I told them to back in March.

tested it out with Memtest for about an hour the other night with both sticks in. Used a microsoft memory tester and even Crucials memory tester. All were fine.

well, to update on my BSOD. I pulled out the Infinion memory and put my Crucial 512MB under the keyboard. All was well and then all of a sudden...BSOD. Same stop code as usual. Now what? I hate to waste my time calling HP when I probably know more than their techsupport.

Hmm... check it with MemTest86+ for about half an hour, and if it fails, Crucial sent you a bad stick.

At this point, I'm going to guess you have a software issue... are you running an up-to-date virus scanner? Have you installed WinXP SP2 yet? My biggest concern is that you might have a worm/virus/spyware infection; if so, you'll need to clean it out before doing the SP2 upgrade (if you haven't already).

laptop arrived on 11/10 with SP2 installed. I added the Crucial 512MB right away, added a Logitech optical mouse to the USB port, and added a D-link Air-Plus Extreme G wireless card. So, no worm. I work for HP and have the latest of every spyware/antivirus/firewall/OS fix you can think of...so, worm/virus/trojan is not the issue.

Guess I just need to eliminate things one by one.
