Hi and first of all thx for a great forum.

You set me on the right path and opened my eyes to the 8710p on which I am typing this. Its a great machine.
Ive been thinking about upgrading my memory from 2GB to 3 or 4 but the prices on HP memory is a bit discouraging.. Now I read in some thread that I might as well by some other brand. Is that ok and if so what kind do you reccomend? Btw I have 2 1024-sticks installed and I am running Vista 32. Perhaps replace one for a 2048?

    :)

If you want to fully utilize 4GB of RAM install Vista x64.
Second, see what brand you have installed in your HP. It might be a well known manufacturer. If it is get the same card. If it's not get a different one.

I don't believe there are any programs which can do that. Though it's not that hard to just take off the ram cover and look at the tags. You should almost always buy ram upgrades from places like newegg.com. It will be MUCH cheaper. It is also incredibly easy to install new ram.
    Take off ram cover
Remove clips off of ram (they're on the side)
    Pull on ram
Put in new ram and push it down so the clips lock back into place
    Close ram cover

Fabian: Sorry to be off topic, but which 8710p did you get (RM254UT maybe?).
Did you get the option to configure yours, cause I can't find a way to configure it at HP, there are only pre-configured models available .
What configuration do you have, especially the screen resolution?
Also, where did you buy yours.

There isn't any option to configure it like you can with a 8710W for instance.

Ahh thx renegadez9.. Would the best thing be to replace both of my 1024 sticks with 2x2GB:s Kingston?

Yes, that would be the idea if you want to get 4GB of RAM. That and Windows Vista/XP x64.

Think 8710p is all by pre-configured model not much (if at all) choice available (is my case as well)... get the sales to type you a details list of specs of any to avoid any misinterpretation.. and maybe check out those codes to specs.. (web around should be able to find).. i did mine but still missed out on some parts..
