I tried installing ddr2 667 (Transcend) on my v3000z and it's been a failure. It consistently locks up after some use. I'm going to have to return it, has anyone had any successes they'd like to share?

I really like the speed of 2 gigs in dual but the locking is beyond annoying. Anyone got a brand/speed to work successfuly to share with me?

Try kingston memory, i know its not as fast as other compariable DDR2s but its reliable, i wouldnt trust any other brand other than kingston.

Always run Memtest86+ when you upgrade the memory. Probably one of the chips is bad.

The Kingston is like 2x as expensive, its like 140$/gig. Ouch.

Would it be terribly dumb to try the Corsair ValueSelect? How bout Mushkin? Those are two brands I'd buy for desktop but I'm not terribly knowledgable about laptop memory.

I don't want to keep buying/sending back crap, but I'm not really a fan of paying 2x as much (Crucial is also like 2x as much).

are you sure? When i bought kingston memory for my V2000z which is DDR it wasnt that much expensive than other brands, I wouldnt think DDR2 is that much more, i think its best if you can wait for a deal at worst buy, crapusa, or frys your electronics. you can probably get some good deals for some kingston memory. Ya i know Im mentioning good deals yet I am dissing them. =)

Corsair is a good brand to go with for memory(right now newegg sells them cheaper than Fry's). I have a 1gb stick in my notebook right now, and also a 512 MB stick in the desktop, and thats been running for about 2yrs now. I give Corsair the recommendation.

Yah I'm not kidding, DDR2 memory, some of the big brands sell for twice as much (see: NewEgg). It's kind of random. It'll be 80$ for so-so brand and then 150$ for others for the SAME speed, type, size etc. So essentially you get 2 gigs for your money with some brands, and then 1 gig with other brands. :(
