I bought a couple of months ago a dv1000t completely souped up except I got bare-bones for memory -- figuring I could get it cheaper from a 3rd party.

Now I am having a had time figuring out what memory will fit.

I want to replace the 256 MB DDR2 and purchase 2 GB (2x 1GB). HP gives almost no info on their site as to the memory that goes in there. The only information they give is that they sell DDR2 SDRAM for it.

    I went on Crucial's site and they suggest this: DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 128Meg x 64

Crucial says that the above chip will go in Pavilion dv1000 series. I am not confident that includes the dv1000t. Also Crucial's memory does not say DDR2, it only says DDR.

I went to NewEgg to see their Crucial choice and they had this

I don't know enough about memory to figure this out.

Can anybody advise me? I just picked Crucial b/c that was the brand the sales rep advised me to use if I was going to 3rd party and also I hoped their scanner tool could help... but it didn't...

But I am not wedded to the brand.

You will need to select dv1000(T) at Crucials site not just dv1000....
    http://www.crucial.com/store/listpa...id=AM&model=Pavilion+dv1000t+Series&submit=Go

Basically any 200pin DDR2 533 or 667 MHz SODIMM should work. The ones you have picked out in Newegg would do just fine. As for brands it really does not matter that much other than quality and the reliability factor. If you want something cheaper try Transcend, they are probably one of the better generic brands out there.

How did you find the dv1000(T) on their site? I looked every where.... So I assumed that they either didn't have it listed or they lumped everything under the dv1000.

BTW I called HP's tech support.... they said that it made no difference whether it was a dv1000 or a dv1000t ... lol.... So much for tech suport....

Another question: I don't understand the difference between

    Crucial Technology 2GB (2 x 1GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Dual Channel Kit Notebook Memory Model CT2KIT12864AC53E - Retail

    and

    buying 2 of

    Crucial Technology 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Notebook Memory Model CT12864AC53E - OEM

(Though I would go with the 667 MHz)

(Also FYI, HP will not service their laptops unless their own memory is in there. So I can't sell my 256 MB memory that came with my notebook because I have to remove the other memory and put back in that one.... Though it probably wouldn't be worth much.)

It was right below the dv1000 on the page where you would select the model/series of the laptop.

The dv1000/1000t are virtually the same except for the processor, motherboard and the memory. They have had the model for quite a while(2004 I believe). So the early models were equipped with DDR memory. They just upgraded it as newer memory and processors became available. This leads to come confusion on the type of memory a certain model is going to take. But if you have the 'T' version then it most certainly uses DDR2 memory.

With the dual channel kit, they are selling 2 modules and marketing it as 'dual channel' memory. You can still buy 2X1GB sticks separately(even from different manufacturers) and still have dual channel. Its there just to make a profit of unsuspecting buyers. If you can get 2X1GB modules separately for cheaper then get it. Its just the same as getting their dual channel kit.

Most manufacturers have that policy. Dell for example wont support or do warranty work on the laptop if they suspect if the upgraded memory was the cause. So, yeah I would definately suggest keeping the stock memory.

Thanks so much for clearing all that up!

I missed the dv1000t because I did not go the drop down box route to find what memory they recommended. So I missed it.
