I just reformatted my new HP dv5t that I got as a replacement system for a problematic laptop. One thing that puzzles me is the message I get every time I boot up the system.

This is on the black screen after the Windows Vista loading bar. The computer does not progress any further until I enter either "0" or "1".

Any idea why this is? Running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit.

    Thanks.

    Hmm.. that sounds strange...

I think you should google it. Google something like "NO Emulation System Type".

I see some people who had the same problem a few years ago, but I'm not sure they had the same problem as yours.

What I've read doesn't sound the same. Windows Vista Home Premium is already installed and I am able to load Windows Vista. The only thing is that I have to enter "0" before it progresses past that black screen. Pressing "1" gives some message, but I forgot to record that.

Do you have any external device plugged into your notebook? i.e. Floppy Drive, flash drive, USB Mouse, CD or DVD still in player, etc? If so remove and try it.

You might try Pressing "1" again and record the message, it may give a clue.

I asked that question as part of my post as well. I do know that depending on how a a CD or DVD is made bootable can cause that error message to be displayed. I don't know the exact conditions that cause it though.

Hey, thanks guys. I tried popping out the Vista OEM Disk I had in my disc drive and now it reboots normally.

    Thanks again.
