Hey I was wondering if anyone had a solution for the mic volume? It is really low and I don't know how to change it? What is the point of having build in mic with webcam if nobody can hear you unless you have your face against the mic.

I have the drivers 4.15.0.50 I think those are the latetst.

Any help would be much appreciated

There is no software way to fix the issue. Its the crappy mics they put in the system. A lot of people are having the issue and the only resolution I have heard mention is having HP replace them. They seem to have put the cheapest most generic mics in the system and they are just not sensitive enough to pick up sound like they should be. Very crappy on their part considering the number of people with the problem. Makes one ask the question do they really test systems before they are shipped out.

I have been searching the web and there are many complaints about vista and microphones volumes. I testest my old headset and the volume was still lower than on my old laptop. For some reason my old webcam does not work on vista so i can't not test that one. are you sure that it is only a hardware problem and not vista or something?

It's not a Vista problem, because using the same HP drivers, an external mic works ok. Plus, my Fussion webcam (it has a mic built-in as well) works outstandingly well compaired to HP setup using logitech Vista drivers.

So either the HP mics are crap or their drivers fail for some reason. Either way it's up to HP to do right by their customers! They should fix, update or replace the hardware/drivers as soon as possible.

HP has been "dealing" with this mic problem from the start of the DV series coming out the middle of last year.

Yup there are countless people that have the mic issues. Its not just Vista because mine acted the same way in Win XP Pro. HP just has a bad habit of pushing crap products on the consumer.

if you go to the sound settings, and in the selected play back device, enable the enhancement for loudness as well as for recording device. this boosts the mic sound pick up a lil bit.

in vista.. right click the speaker volume icon in the taskbar.. click recording devices.. select Microphone..click properties.. go to levels tab.. increase the lever higher.. to 100 if u want. test your mic again..
I am getting pretty good recording qualtiy.

    Hey kewlguy,
I have tried that but it does not make any difference. But thanks for the help.
It is frustrating that there are so little settings to change with the sound in general, compared to the settings in XP (old laptop).

Ok so I tried my old webcam even though the camera it self does not work the mic does. and the sound is normal. Has anyone tried to use a mic with jack on the front? Well at least I can record sound again even if it with a external mic

Everyone that has attempted using the mic jac in the front has found that it works fine. The internal hardware works its the mics themselves that seem to have a problem. Although some people have said that theirs work a lot have said no matter what they couldnt pick much up. It still falls on HP and their lack of qaulity items as well as lack of testing before being shipped.

I suggest moving this whole discussion to the other thread about the veince driver with the poll. Because than we don't have post dubble. Oh btw try to install the original driver with me the volume got a little higher, but have to test it some more before I am satisfied
