I have a HP Pavilion dv9235nr, and when I tried using my mic for online voice chat, my friends told me my voice sounded really low. even if i talked very loudly, they could barely hear me.

I'm wondering... does anyone else have problems with their mic? Especially people with the 9000 series? (or do they all have the same mic?)

The Mics inside the 9000 series notebook will differ slightly depending on the model revision.

I would just make sure that your Mic volume is turned all the way up, if it is contact HP Support and tell them, it could just be a faulty Mic.

Probably is a crap mic. Mine has sucked since day 1. It doesnt bother me greatly since when I am on the road I take my headset with the built in mic. But these mics arent really sensitive enough to be used for much. By that same token, IMHO the camera isnt up to par either. My logitech notebook cam is 100x better the the thing HP installed.

Nothing you personally do is going to fix the issue. It is with the hardware itself not the software running it. The mics just arent sensitive enough to pick up sound like it should be.

After fooling around with some more settings and testing them out using skype, I have gotten my microphone to work a little better.

I right clicked on the volume icon in the bottom right tool bar and selected recording devices"

I Double clicked on the microphone and went to the levels tab and moved it to 100%

i then went to the advanced tab and unchecked all three boxes

There is probably a better way to fix it, but this is all i could figure out

Most if not all options include a 20DB microphone boost.
You must turn that on as well and it shoudl work fine.

You should read my sig about HP care...

I went after them because the mics didn't work correctly. It's funny how new revisions started to come out 3 weeks later I started my complaints.

To many people say, "Meh, mics in laptops are crap". When they're is a webcam in the center of them, the laptop is being sold as a VoIP type machine. If it can't do that, you're not getting what you should be
    getting!

As for the +20DB boost thing, you can NOT do that with the drivers that comes with the sound card with the DV9000, DV6000 and DV2000 machines.

I took me a long time to get the HP lot to understand this as well! The problem isn't the mics, but the sound card itself! I know how to set up the 20DB on my desktop, but there is no advance mode for recording in the drivers for the sound card!

The replacement laptop they gave me, works a lot better. It's still not as good as my sound card in my desktop, but useable! Where as in my last laptop, I had to shout, just to be heard as a whisper!

I have brand new HP DV9210 with Vista home premium and facing same problem with microphone. I am also unable to adjust the microphone volume, as it once I adjust, it goes back to 7-10 and sometimes it stays at 70 or 100. I am not sure what should I do. HP customer care is useless and of no use. Should I return the notebook, as I just bought it few days ago. Please advise.
