I am considering an HP Mini 311. I was going to order one for $399 and have 4GB DDR2 800 (2x2) RAM and Windows 7 to put on it. Are there any issues in doing so?

I also hear that if you run Windows 7 that the ION is the full fledged ION not the crippled "LE" version. Does this really matter though?

The 311's - well at least my 311 - come with and use DDR3 RAM - the slots are different so DDR2 will not work. I ordered mine with Win 7 - which runs pretty well. Just today, I pulled the original drive, and installed XP Pro on a different drive, then installed Win7-32 next - it's a dual-booter now. From what I understand, the XP drivers cripple the ION to an ION "LE" - the Win 7 drivers allow it to be a full-fledged (if there is such a thing) ION. I believe the same ION is installed on all 311's - the main difference is the drivers. My WEI in Win 7 is 5.4 for gaming and 4.7 for Aero with HP drivers. Last but not least, I'm a big fan of the 311 - I recommend that you get one. The only caution I can think of is the LCD/lid is pretty thin and flimsy at the top in the webcam area.
