I think the mini pci wireless card in my girlfriends Compaq is busted. How do I access the mini pci for a Compaq 3045 us? Any instructions? Thanks.

If it's the R30445US, the miniPCI slot is under the keyboard. You'll find instructions for how to get to it in the HP Service Guide.

The big problem is that only a couple of HP miniPCI WiFi cards are authorized by the BIOS whitelist, though someone did figure out how to patch the BIOS to get around that (see elsewhere in this forum). Your best bet is probably to get a PCMCIA WiFi card even though that's going to have less range since it won't use the antenna panels embedded behind your screen.

According to the sticker on the bottom of the notebook, it's a Compaq Presario 3045US. It's about 2-3 years old. The old mini-pci card is a Broadcom. I tried looking for a teardown manual but Compaq/HP doesn't list one. They just list useless FAQ's on the site

On the left side of the downloads page for your notebook you'll see a Manuals link. Click that.
