I'd like to use an 802.11 mini-PCI card for my ze4610. I've read that to maximize reception, you need to use an internal antenna. I opened up the door to the mini-PCI slot, and did not see any antenna connectors. The manual nor HP's standard website mention anything about the mini-PCI slot, so it looks like i'd have to order and install this on my own. Would I be able to use this antenna from the hp parts site? (if you scroll down a little bit, you'll see a listing for a wireless antenna) Has anyone done this with their ze4610?

Antennas are usually built into the casing around the display. So when you plug in the mini-PCI card, the antenna should already be there. You may want to confirm this with HP, but I would find it odd that HP would make two different display housings.

Your best bet rather than to do all that is to get a good PCMCIA card with a good radio on it. I helped design, implement, install and test the network for my University when the put it in a few years ago. We found that the best radios were the cisco 350 cards. They had the most reliablity of service and reception out of any of the cards we tried. Thus I would recommend that you get this if you do not already have one built in.

I disagree. I don't like having another external piece of hardware to carry, plus it limits your options in the PCMCIA slot.

I agree it does add the external parts, and given the option to buy one built in at the factory or an external I would get one built in, but if you have to buy one aftermarket anyway the Cisco 350 offers the best range and reliability from my experience.

I installed the Mini-PCI 802.11 b/g and blue tooth. Great card, faster and better signal than my PCMIA Card. Cheap too, I had to install the internal wires, but found it only took about an hour. Just take your time and follow the directions provided by HP's Manual at their website. Take notes on the screws as well, it makes it faster to put back together

Cheap - I went through 3 externals and 1 usb wireless and this is so much better. Also the ze4610us runs the antenna below the motherboard to the base hinges of the screen, you will not need to disasemble the LCD, but you will need to do the computer. Sounds hard, but really easy!

Call them Directly. I bought the Card for $10 and the wires for $15. I also used them to replace my LCD when I cracked it. I don't remember the price, but I can tell you it was good. They also know the ze4610us inside and out.
