when xp turns off the screen upon resume the picture is all messed up. The text is all messed up. sometimes the screen looks like someone pushed the right of the screen to the left two inches.

If i leave it alone for more than 1hr with the screen down it will do this, if i restart it is fine until the next time i leave it alone.

any ideas? im using windows xp pro. im going to keep trying different versions of windows to see if i can fix it. I have tried different themes in case that was the issue, but it has not made a difference.

    thanks

wow! i also have a Compaq F572US but I paid $500 for mine after rebates! But this really is an awsome laptop. Very good looking, easy to use and fast.
The only thing it really needs is a slightly bigger hard drive, perhaps 100 gigs.
I got the Idea to buy a compaq from an uncle, his kids put so many games on it, and abused it so much, and it still works perfect (exept that his screen has a few rows of dead pixels). My overall rating: ****1/2

anyone know if a firewire can be installed on this machine? and if so, can it handle uploading video from my camcorder, editing it and burning it to dvd?

    Hello all,
I just got mine... The Compaq F572US.... sweet.
In preparation for the arrival I ordered 2GB from crucial (serious $55 for 2GB kit) I opened and put the 2Gb in even before I first fired it up. Went through the HP start up screens. Tweaked around a bit. I decided Vista is not half bad. I will hold off DG to XP pro for now.

The first round the experience rating was 2.4 based on the "weakest link" video. I upgraded the bios from HP, upgraded the drivers from Microsoft. (many updates.... whoa) and giving the video the max in the bios. I am not sure which one helped.... My experience rating is 3.0... The other components stayed the same. 4.6 or 5.0 So it is OK.

With all the using and exploring the battery only lasts 1.5 to maybe 2 hrs. Got a 12 cell battery yesterday..... What a nice difference. After full charge. I used it 4 full hours and it was only down to 40%.

Nice laptop, I got it for a good deal. I am very pleased. The 12 cell and 2 gb were needed.
    My 2¢ YB

I was looking around at the local Staples and saw this laptop for $386.00 and with the $30.00 rebate I got it for around $350.00 a steal. I love this laptop and I am currently tweeking it for better Vista performance. Bought 2gb of Corsair memory from TigerDirect and applied most of the top ten tweeks. A couple of nights ago I applied the Vista SP1 RC and its running great. My Alienware Area 51 m5550 is getting jealous. I plan to use this as my work laptop and also to play with and learn Vista and the new AMD 64 AthlonX2 CPU. ;) I'm really not a avid gamer and that's what the Alienware is for anyway but I tried a few of the games I have just to see how they would respond. I have not found a updated NVIDIA 6100 driver on LaptopVideo2go that works but haven't given up. However I was able to load Bioshock and tweek the settings to a playable state. Oblivion ran very playable without any tweeking but COH would not even install.
