Got problem with onboard keyboard. HP Pavillion ze4500. Typing is OK with external keyboard in Win XP. Onboard Keyboard also work ok using ubuntu.
Has a virus wrecked my windows? Why does it work with ext. keyb., and not with onboard.
Problem is some letters will not be typed. I go back backspacing, and hit key again and it types.

    Any suggestion?

sounds like your keyboard is freaking out, get it replaced (they might just send you a new one and let you install it yourself, keyboard replacement is pretty painless)

Have you dropped your notebook ever? Has there even been a spill on the keyboard of the laptop? Those are probably the most common causes of keyboard failure. I'm almost 100% sure it's not going to be a virus. Also, as Dragnskull posted, it might just be a keyboard failure because of the age of your notebook.

You should also try an external keyboard to see if it works any better than the built-in keyboard.

You may want to detach your notebook keyboard connector and attached it back. Normally it solves the problem, if not then it's time to get it replace.

Hello folks. Like to be more spesific.
My keyboard works perfect while working in the Ubuntu mode. It also works alright in "dos" -mode.
It does NOT work while typing in Microsoft word.
It skips some letters, so i have to retype it. I see no kind of pattern in the failure.
    This is the "built-in" keyboard.
Now, when i connect an external keyboard there is no problem, it types and work alright.
There is no key that works worse than the others. Sometimes it's spacebar, sometimes another key.
I have not dropped the notebook and not spilled anything on it.

    Any more suggestion?

Its a software side issue if the keyboard works fine in ubuntu. Try reinstalling word or check the settings.
