I just recently got my HP pavilion dv9000 (dv9008nr). And I cannot get the remote to work. I tried talking to HP tech support, and they just sent me a new remote. I know there must be some sort of setup that I have to do, but I can't seem to find any help.

I don't believe mine required any set-up. I've only used it on Quickplay DVDs, but it worked the first time I tried it.

What are you trying to control with it?

I've tried to use it on everything, QuickPlay, WMP, etc.

did u insert the battery? lol seriously it shudnt be a problem, it works with everything ive used on it even just browsing stuff on the PC. check the device manager to make sure nothing on there is disabled or got some problem, though i havent found the actual driver for the IR device if there is one. If two remotes didnt work then its quite likely its a problem with ur laptop not the remote....

Definitely checked the battery awhile ago, thanks for the help though...I'll have to contact HP again then.

Make sure IR is turned on for your notebook. I can't recall the exact procedure in a post Win98 machine, but if you search the help and support guide you should come up with something. Make sure it's visible in task manager to start.

Do you know where I can find the information for the IR, because it seems that is the problem after looking at my device manager.

I think under Human Interface Devices it's the one called Human Interface Device.

I'm having the same issue with my controller except that it used to work before. I know that it still works because the small LED light on the IR receiver for the Media Center remote lights up when i press a button, but the computer fails to respond to any of the commands.

When the notebook is off, can you turn it on with the remote?

aren't the black remotes supposed to be same as gray? My new remote does not work with my new laptop. these remotes are flimsy!

I wonder what the deal is. Maybe there is something the Vista people need to do to get their controllers to work. I'm still waiting for my Vista upgrade disk to come in the mail, so i still have the Media Center Edition.

well mine finaly started working. I think it has to do with how the battery sits inside the battery slot. sometimes it doesn't make a good contact. so play with it till it works. also could be a bad battery from factory.
