This one's for the le3tz0rs.
I purchased a zv5000 with an integrated Mobility 9000 igp. I can already hear you guys moaning. However, it seems to be doing a fine job for what it was intended to do (light graphics work, minor game playing, ect...). That being said, I am wondering if the gcard is upgradeable. No plans, indeed no need, to be changing things around just yet, but in a year or two... who knows. Any thoughts?

You've got an IGP, which is not upgradable.

TheShaman, are you speaking from observance, aka have you looked at the inside of a laptop, or are you basing your observations on experience with desktop systems? ATI's website isn't too clear, but they state that the 9000igp is pin compatible with the 32 and 64mb mobility 9000's. But like I said, their website isn't too clear, so I might be misinterpriting their info.

I believe TheShaman is correct, the IPG models have the chipset integrated onto the systemboard so I don't think you'll be able to upgrade the graphics chip. Even if you could, the drivers on the ATI website may not work with your system, you might only be able to get the drivers from HP, if that's the case, the drivers will not match the system type and it may not work.
If you're talking about the memory, the IPG systems are designed to allocate system memory to video. Therefore if you have 512MB of system memory and set your video to 64MB, you'll end up with 448MB of usable system memory. I believe this model may be able to set the video memory upto 128MB, but then you'd be left with only 384MB of usable ram. -
Like they said IGP means it uses system memory it doesn't have any of its own and is thus not desined to be upgraded or modified. Thats why on a lot of the motherboards for desktops with integrated video they also have an AGP slot so that you could update at some later point, since you can't just replace what is there, that is built into the board you have to add in a card in a special slot made for it. Perhaps ATI did do something different for the Laptops, but I doubt it since people are more likely to upgrade a desktop and you can't do it there without a spare AGP slot.
