I ordered the LG LP156WF1. It's not 95%, but I really don't care. I also don't want to have to calibrate it, as many have said is necessary with the 95%. The 95% screens recently are also having issues with red ghosting. But, if yours doesn't have the ghosting issues, then I'm sure you will love it.

EDIT: The panel has shipped, should be here Wednesday.

I got the screen earlier today, and just spent the last hour and a bit installing it. It looks lovely. I rather worryingly have 3 left over screws, but i cant work out where they go, and nothing is rattling or loose. Thats a problem for another day!

But yeah, i used the HP service guide to take the computer apart. Because i had to change the display cable as well as the panel, i found it too hard to "cheat" and just remove the display and bezel.

As for the display, its alot more vibrant than the old panel. my work mate has a dv4 with the old panel next to this one, and this looks alot nicer. In terms of ghosting cant see any. And thankfully no dead pixels. The extra screen real estate is lovely.

How did you guys manage to order the cable on the HP website? After adding the part to my shopping cart, I try to proceed to checkout, but it keeps failing. On Chrome, it will bring me back to the HP Parts Store page, and with IE, it keeps saying my cart is empty.

Did you follow this link? It works fine for me, I can get to the page where it asks for my personal information. I was actually having the same problem about a week before I wanted to order, and after a few days it seemed to have fixed itself. I would suggest clearing the browser cache (on chrome, click wrench, then tools, then clear browsing data).

For me, the cable isn't even available as an item. It shows up on the page, but it isn't an active link, just text, and I have no way of adding it to a shopping cart at all.

Make sure you check the box next to the part before you click 'add to cart'. The part is not a link, it's just part of a list that would normally have more than one item. If there's no check box, close it and try again.

I tried everything to no avail :( After proceeding to check out, it says:

The following part(s) you entered were not found or not orderable:
    656805-001 (Part Not Orderable)

Can you try to see if it works for you right now? Also, do you have an HP parts store account, and which browser are you using?

Yes, no, Chrome. I have not the foggiest what could be wrong if you have already cleared your cache. You may have to place the order over the phone. Parts store phone number: 1-800-227-8164 (found here).

so ive been thinking about what to do with the removed panel, the current plan is buying a lvds controller off ebay for it, and trying to find a 15.6 multitouch add on panel and mounting it in a nice box. any one got any leads on a decent multitouch panel? i can find lots on ebay for smaller sizes, but not many multitouch...

AUO B173HW03 v.4 or 5 should be good. V.4 is glossy, V.5 is matte. I am assuming you are talking about upgrading from 900p to 1080p. That has been tried successfully several times before on this thread. Also, I got my panel today in the mail and installed it. It works great. At first, it was way too dim and wouldn't get brighter, but that was just my laptop not being fully booted. At full brightness it looks great. Viewing angles are much better than the old one.

Left, so if you could see through the screen looking at it while reading this, it would be on the lower right.

May I ask whats the brand of the DV7-6xxx 1080p screen by hp?
Mine was the B173RW01 v3 but 900p. What about the 1080p screen?

I don't know the brand, I think it is AUO. Possible LG. I also just noticed a stuck pixel in the new screen. It is bright blue in the lower left. The seller said A+ grade, perfect condition, so I could probably replace it. What do ya'll think?

By the way, it's right on the edge of the taskbar, so I won't even notice it unless I am viewing something fullscreen. And whatever I'm viewing has to be dark for me to even be able to find the pixel.

Well, I tried all the popular stuck pixel fixing methods and nothing worked. I think I will be e-mailing the seller today to see if I can return it and get one with a guarantee of no stuck pixels. If not, I think I will live with it. By the way, I have the opposite problem of BlackandBlue. I appear to be missing at least 2 screws. So, the lesson here, kids, is to keep your screws in some kind of container, not just on the table.

EDIT: I e-mailed him yesterday, and he responded. Very nice e-mail. He said I could return it and get a replacement and he would pay return shipping, so I will be sending it back today. By the way, I created a thread about replacing the screen.

Thank you, that was a little outdated. My beautiful screen is now on it's way to the seller. Now I am stuck again with the barely-viewable-without-dying-of-horrible-picture-quality screen. Man everything looks so cramped.

Since you installed an Intel Wifi, I suppose you have an Intel CPU+chipset as well. If so, you should check if you can still change the bios [e.g.: VT] without semi-bricking the laptop.

I wouldn't do this unless you really need to use VT. If it DOESN'T work, you need to remove the CMOS battery.

You can't put ANY Wifi cards aside from the 1000 or the 1030 into this notebook. Unless you flash a modded BIOS with the whitelist removed, the computer will not boot.

No, The whitelist also includes Intel's 6150, Broadcom 4313, RaLink RT5390 & RT3090BC4 and two Realtek solutions. The bios mods from bios-mods.com is suboptimal, because once the laptop completely lost power for minute [e.g. when the battery runs out of juice, e.g.: when recalibrating or on a long journey] you can't start it again, unless you remove the cmos battery too...

I thought I already responded to this, but yes, I have used a Killer 1102. It works great, once you update to the modified BIOS. There's no point to using a 6300 over a 6200 or an 1103 over an 1102, because the only difference between the cards is that the 6300 and 1102 are made to connect 3 antennas and the notebook only has two.

Any source for that? That makes no sense.

And I'm pretty sure other people tried those cards and that was the whole problem, the cards HP listed as being compatible replacement parts did not, in fact, work.

Well, I'm not referring to the maintenance manual. If you want you can look into the BIOS yourself the pcilock is in CD28DACA-BDBE-481A-90AC-625C79CF234C_2_904.ROM. The list starts at offset 0x1F60.
[Note: The bios also checks for the subsystemids, so you can't use any third-party cards they have to come from HP]

Yes it does remove the power plug and the battery and wait for a minute [Ideally, while pressing the power button to empty out the capacitors as well]. It's the same bug you get when you change the VT setting in the bios.
