Sigh. Did it myself. After studying the DV7 manual it looked like you could replace the screen without totally dissembling the laptop. What I did was pop the front screen bezel off by removing the two screws under the rubber stoppers and go from there. It was NOT easy, thought I was going to break something at every turn (The tabs that connect the front bezel are nasty and the flat cable connecting the panel to the mobo has the worst ribbon connector I've ever seen in working with computers for over a decade). I'd suggest having someone near by when you need more than two hands.

Still, it was worth it to get that beautiful AUO B173HW01 V5 Matte in there. That and being able to disable that damn white HP LED in the back of the screen.

could it b possible to find a aftermarket keyboard company and ask for them to make a backlit keyboard for our dv7t (supply and demand), i'm sure that if they see there is a lot of people willing to buy them they would make it.... I think it should b possible , there is an led in the mouse pad , there is also a couple of led's in the keyboard already they could get the power from there to turn on the led's and maybe even use the fn/space bar to turn the keyboard light on and off like the mouse pad there has to b something they can do..........they could use the keys from the envy keyboard maybe even the led's from the envy keyboard and somehow make them work along with the led from the mouse pad connection .....

I made an account on this site, and am posting this just to tell you (Especially you, Autoarc) how much this thread helped me pick out my laptop (HP DV6T refurb from ebay) and change out the 720P screen for a 1080P. Thank you all SO MUCH. Although, the cable from HP was stupid expensive, It's worth it in the end.

Anyone have a link to a whitelist removal for the dv6t-6100? I really need to replace this Intel Wifi Link 1000 bgn network card I have for something that will actually stay connected to the internet. I have no idea how to remove the whitelist, or what to do so that I can put a decent wireless card in my computer. I've had it for five months and it's had wireless connectivity issues since day one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FINALLY got the keyboard i ordered, and it does not work. I tracked down a connector and plan to solder it on to see if that works or not.

Its important to note though, it would not boot with a different keyboard attatched. I have no idea why, but it kept saying no keyboard attatched, it would install as a ps2 keyboard in windows, but its NOT useable with the bios.

Is the 1080p upgrade solution for the dv7t the same for the dv7z (AMD)? Same screen, don't need the cable, etc?

Also, note the screens below (from laptopscreen.com):

5 records was found for B156HW01Screen compatible with part number B156HW01 V.7

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Screen compatible with part number B156HW01 V.5

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Screen compatible with part number B156HW01 V.4

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Screen compatible with part number B156HW01 V.1

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Screen compatible with part number B156HW01 V.0

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would assume that the V.7 would be the latest and greatest, but does anyone know for sure? Those of us over at the dv6z/dv7z thread would be very grateful.

My fear is that we'd pop open a dv7z and find that the connector on the back of the screen is on the right-hand side...a dead end for an upgrade.

Just finally installed a DV7T 1080p screen! Installing it was a breeze and all I did was remove the bezel screws and the bezel and the side screws from the display holder. It overall only took me 20 mins to install.

Wondering if anyone has attempted to transplant the 2012 dv6t backlit keyboard to the 2011 model.... :)

EDIT: After looking at the teardown manual for the 2012 model, it shows a second ZIF connector for the backlight....so I'm guessing the swap is not doable :(

Couple of questions if anyone is still monitoring this thread.

First has anyone modded the heatsink/fan (Idk how you would improve them but who knows)

My DV7tqe i7-2720QM Throttles due to temp during benchmarks (and I assume gaming) Durring 3DVantage it's capable of 26,000IOPS but throttles down and gets ~20-22,000 IOPS after a few seconds. With a good Heatsink mod (already applied AS5) it could theoretically go farther without throttling.

*/ Placing a cooler below the laptop with an icevpack below the cooler fan (not touching) has actually resulted in slightly lower temps and better scores by ~300 points.
I know that sounds odd but try it and you will see. */

Anyways a heatsink mod or fan mod would be awesome.

Secondly has everyone noticed the working dualband wireless card?

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...-hp-approved-dual-band-wireless-n-dv7tqe.html

    Thanks!

Edit: ordered the B173HW01 V.4 Glossy 1080P Screen (May be matte though "depending on availability") fingers crossed on this one.

    Hi,

I have a DV7-7202tx Envy and have fitted the keyboard shown in the photo from previous posts, everything fits and I have the ZIF connecter, my only problem is getting the FN+F5 to work, I have the ground circuit but lacking the 5vdc, I have been trying everywhere, I have had HP try and sot it (over the phone) and posted in a few different forums, this one seems to be the most informative and active. I have looked at drivers and checked all setting in CMOS, I have even tried looking in the windows registry (since other FN+F key eg brightness and volume seem to work only once windows has loaded, I found reference to F17 and others even tho I don't have any past F12) I cant map it in Tweakkey as there is no keyboard backlight function to map it to. A similar model DV7-7212nr has a backlit keyboard, however I need inspiration on where to look,
if they put the ZIF connector on the board then it must have been an option. I seem to me ppl call them Action keys, Quick keys, Hot keys, can someone do me a solid and get to the bottom of this, its driving me nuts, I don't want to soldier wires on as its 1 week old.

My next thing to try is flash the bios with a dv7 Envy that has Backlit capabilities,
    Awaiting some good replies......

    UPDATE.

rebooted the laptop and entered bios, I found that the action keys are not working, this says to me its software based and enable after bois has run..

madhp, superman2k2 Wrong Topic! This is for the Sandy Bridge modell only, I think.

aindriu80: It's possible to upgrade to 1080p. You need a new lcd and a new lcd cable that supports the resolution.

I just got my Envy g7t-7300 Quad Edition and Im so excited to play with it. Problem is that it came with Windows 8 and I want to install Windows 7 on it. I tried to downgrade, deleted all the partitions and attempted a Windows 7 install, but ran into this error .“Windows Setup could not configure Windows on this computer’s hardware” which is a problem with the computer recognizing the hard drive with the AHCI settings. So then I tried to "Load Drivers" before at the beginning of the Windows 7 install and received this error when trying to load the drivers, "The [Intel(R) Mobile Express Chipset SATA RAID Controller (D:\iaStorAC.inf) (x64)] device driver could not be installed. Contact your vendor for an updated driver." So the only option I think is to change the settings in the BIOS to IDE from AHCI but the BIOS is limited by HP. Any help with what to do? I cant find a mod for the Bios which is Insyde F.22. HELP! I need to install Windows 7!

Why on Earth posting this in this topic? Modding topic for Sandy-Bridge based DV6. You have an Ivy-Bridge Envy without mods. Complete different section of the forum.

By the way, You can't simply go back to Windows 7 from 8. Check it on the Microsoft homepage. And as I read you have a raid solution in your machine. Then you have to download the raid driver from HP if its not on the Win7 disc.

I just bought a Dv7t 6000 with the 1600x900 screen off craigslist and took it to my local computer shop to see about getting a 1080p screen replacement ... guy there checked with his supplier and said it was impossible to replace that 1600 screen with anything higher ...

    Is he wrong?

Just note that it is wide gamut and glossy. wide gamut shouldn't be a huge issue, though not sure if you prefer matte or glossy.

How the HELL do you calibrate this thing?

I used a color meter to set an ,icc profile, but it switches to some other default profile all the time no matter what I do, and sometimes it adds some tinting to the profile and some times it doesn't ... very, very strange.

It might be the intel graphic card software that does it ... when I updated that, my profile worked, but then I couldn't switch to the ATI graphics anymore, so I had to revert back ...

    Anyone else get this problem?

There was a heavy blue tint typical with laptops.

I'm using a Spyder2 which improved color tremendously but tiled it slightly toward the red.

I figured out the issue with keeping the profile active--there were several Intel startup entries that were messing it up. Disabled those and now the profile sticks!

EDIT: There's still some weird color shifting going on ... I'll watch a video and switch back to my desktop and my desktop wallpaper will be super bright and over-saturated, and then suddenly go back to my calibrated profile ... so something is still screwing things up somewhere.

It's the old 1600x900 screen. Haven't got the new one yet. I don't think it is a screen issue though, but some kind of software issue ... I'm getting solarization ... like someone's face in a movie trailer will sort of glow and solarize, and when I watch the same trailer on my other laptop or desktop, it looks fine ... It is a very strange, subtle issue and my guess is it has something to do with the Intel onboard graphics software ...

Figured out the issue, in case anyone else gets stumped by this ... I was getting this terrible picture with video ... both washed out and over-saturated at the same time. It was only with video, and when I switched back to my desktop, I could see the picture gradually return to normal ... If I opened up a word file, when I quickly switched from a video to the word file, the word file would be this awful dark gray color, instead of white, then it would slowly return to a normal looking white ...

It's HP's battery settings. If the laptop isn't plugged in, any setting besides "maximum performance" or whatever it is called, just destroys image quality with videos. Once I set it to "maximum performance," everything was fine. Haven' seen this with other laptops so it took me a while to figure out.

    Hi guys,

I am new to this forum, but I do have some news and I do need some help.
First, let me introduce my laptop:

    HP dv6-6b41ed
    - i7-2670qm
    - 8GB ram
    - HD 6770M 2GB
    - Samsung 840 EVO 120GB
    - WD Black 750GB
    - 1080p non-glare
    - Intel Wireless-AC 7260

I have modified it a little, since I have soldered the CN_KBL connector to the motherboard, and installed this keyboard: Wholesale HP US Backlit Keyboard for Pavilion dv6 7029WM dv6 7084LA | eBay
It fits perfectly, I only had to cut off the screw holes on the back. But now there is some sort of a problem: the keyboard backlight just doesn't work. The keyboard itself works perfectly, but the lights don't. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?'

    Thanks

Reinstall the hotkey driver or swap the driver with another that belongs to an originally backlit laptop.

Finally, i have got keyboard backlight working on my dv6!!! I used the connector for the fingerprint reader, because it's a nice feature but I can live without it. It's not optimal, because it seems like it's not getting the full +5V, but it's something!

Here is a link to pictures of it. One picture is made while it's not in the laptop, but connected to an external +5V source. You can clearly see that it's brighter in that picture.
