Hi,
I have an HP Pavilion N5150 laptop and am having some monitor issues with it. Basically the screen goes black at random times and will not come back on unless you turn the computer off. I've tried:
-Booting into safe mode. Still does it.
-Using an external monitor. Still does it.
-Dissassembled the laptop and checked connections/wires. Still does it.
I am beginning to think that maybe it's wiring gone bad or something. Any ideas?

oh no.. sounds familiar... :S
This exact same thing happened to me a year ago with an hp zd7000 laptop. The screen would just die on me and the only way to bring it back would be hibernating or shutting down the computer.. Fortunately i was under warranty and i sent the laptop to hp their diagnostic was that it was the screen's fault so they reaplaced it. When i got my computer back it still had the problem, exactly the same! I was pretty upset as my warranty had just expired while it was under repairs but still i called them and explained the situation and even though my warranty had expired they understood their diagnostic was wrong so they took it back. This time they replaced the motherboard, or so they said, but it was working fine.
I sure hope your warranty will cover this. Personally i dont understand what could make a problem like this happen.. but now i know i am not the only one this has happened to. Ask around though, there might be another way to fix it or someone will give you a different diagnostic then mine.
Hope this helps

No, that helps...i'm just trying to decide whether I should spend $150 on a new monitor or not. Forgot to mention I also took out the hard drive and the screen still turned black, so I don't think it's a driver issue.
So what are we thinking? Monitor or motherboard? -
just in case i misunderstood... it is the integrated screen of the laptop itself right? not an external one?
If so then, because of my experience i'd say motherboard.

Yeah, the integrated laptop monitor doesn't work as well as when I plug an external monitor to the vga port. I'm beginning to think you are right about it being the motherboard.
