Hi, currently I have 11.8 installed on top of the original HP drivers, and I am having quite a bit of problems with it. Simply put, when I try to play CSS (Counter-Strike Source) or Minecraft in fullscreen, I see parts of my screen "flickering" it is not a vsync issue, the game itself flickers. In just windowed mode, the game runs fine.
I was wondering if anyone else had the same experience as me and found a fix for it, your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Keep in mind I just did do a full system recovery, so I can be certain that it was the stock HP drivers.
Edit: In general, I see it mostly in the menus and not in the games, but sometimes I do see it in the games itself. It is most evident in the minecraft menus...not source.
EDIT: WOW! The DNA drivers, are VERY VERY good! www.donotargue.com is the website for the drivers, please try it out!

Problem happens only when I am using the 6770m, not intel.
I can't take a screenshot of the problem either, when I try to screenshot it, it simply takes a screenshot of a black screen, bizarre.
Really hope you guys can help me out! -
i'm using DNA 11.8.3 since 11.9 and 11.10-preview gave me bad flickers in BF3 beta.
-
can you post a quick how-to how you installed the 11.10 preview drivers? whenever i uninstall HPs GPU drivers and try to install AMDs 11.10 preview drivers, it doesnt find my GPu :/ -
Uhm, also did you install them on top of the HP drivers? Or clean install. -
WOW.
Anyone whose reading this for drivers,
PLEASE try using the DNA drivers on top of the most recent stock HP drivers.
They are extremely stable and much much better then stock.
Give them a try,
Just install it on top of your existing stock drivers and your good to go! -
-
-
everytime you want to upgrade/downgrade driver make sure u have HP driver installed. -
Just to be quite honest with you, I just try every driver until I find one that works well for me and this is it! If you feel like the HP one is better then keep using it, don't try to fix what isn't broken! -
Aw, as much as I love these drivers, they can't play MC for some reason, Java and the display driver keeps crashing for this game. Because I like the drivers more then MC, i'ma keep them but thats rather unfortunate.
-
Try disable PowerPlay when u play the game.
-
Lol, Do you know why? :S
Just out of curiousity. -
Please forgive my ignorance (have not had a good, gaming-capable, computer in ages) - but what are DNA drivers?
Thanks -
-
I've seen posts that mention they had better game play when they have disabled PowerPlay, but when I did mine I got horrible frame rates and lag on online gaming.
Also thanks, the DNA drivers are working good. Installed them last week. -
DNA drivers are fine with everything but minecraft for me
crashes within 20 seconds with our without power play -
-
it seems the only way i can prevent minecraft from crashing is by using the stock HP drivers. the stock HP drivers are awful and have terrible screen tearing and poorer performance than even 11.5b+.
it's really disappointing >.< -
Disable powerplay when you play MC and it doesn't crash. -
1. Go into Device Manager -> Display Adapters
2. Right click Graphics Card (6770m in this case) and click uninstall, there should be checkbox to select after you press uninstall, check that and hit okay.
3. The trick here is to disconnect yourself from the internet and to DELETE ANY OTHER DISPLAY DRIVER ON YOUR COMPUTER EXCEPT THE ONE YOU WANT.
Windows 7 just automatically starts looking over the hard drive if you're not connected to the internet to find a display driver that'll be compatible with your computer...and if the only driver you let it find is the stock HP drivers, then it'll just auto-install that. Uhm, but yeah, i've never had any problems doing it this method...but a lot of people over the internet seem to recommend using driver cleaners so take your pick! -
i read through this read like 4 times trying to figure out exactly which DNA drivers you're using and i've tried just about every combination imaginable (stock ccc + 1.8.3 dna, stock ccc + 1.5 dna, stock ccc + 1.9 amd and i've even upgraded from the stock ccc and added just about every combination to it as well).
right now im back to the most recent stock HP drivers on their site and nothing crashes but the screen tearing is back >.> -
-
Try install MSI Afterburner and enable UnofficialOverclockingMode lvl 2.
-
My Driver is sucks ,it stucks and freeze for few seconds then back.
Not even on Hard Graphic Games!!
(The last from HP..)
I try find the DNA drivers, no succsse for me.
From all I saw - Nothing is matched to my graphic driver.
(ATI 6770M, Win 7 64bit HP Pavilion DV6-6020)
Anyone can help me find the Best package?
Prefered full packege to get MAX performance from it. -
(maybe NOT the best, but pretty good) -
what are u guys getting on 3dmark11 with the DNA drivers??
I just installed this driver AMD Catalyst 11.9 WHQL (8.892 September 8) - Download & Discussion - Guru3D.com Forums
and and now im getting P1535 (GPU 1368) on 3dmark11, before this I had the latest drivers from HP's site and the highest score I ever got was P1496 (GPU 1333)
So my question is, are the dna drivers even better than the one I just installed? -
I did slightly better with DNA-AMD GFX 11.10.1-prev2 last night which i'm pretty sure u won't notice the difference in game.
Total = P1567
GPU = 1388 -
alright, so the DNA drivers seem to be the best ones out there huh, fair enough, thanks for running the test
-
I Didn't download/install any driver.
All I got is the HP one and this is what i got:
AMD Radeon HD 6770M video card benchmark result - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz,Hewlett-Packard 1657 score: P1460 3DMarks
Total P1460
GPU 1332
What I Can do to make it to the Max limit?
Still dont know which DNA to download
Need your help out here -
Does anyone know how to disable Powerplay without completely gimping performance? If I understand it correctly, Powerplay adjusts the clock speed of the GPU automatically and I am thinking this might be the cause of all my crashing issues.
I recall hearing some kind of way to keep the gpu clock speed constant using msi afterburner but I don't know how to do that.
If anyone knows how, please tell me! -
UnofficialOverclockingMode = 2
will lock Both Core and Memory Clocks MAX (will also generate the most heat build) -
basically I'm getting strange "amd display has stopped responding" crashes. notably in minecraft or when I stream starcraft 2. in minecraft, the crashes force me to restart the game while in streaming it just makes the game lag and turns the screen black for a few seconds. It could just be bad drivers (currently using latest DNA drivers but the stock HP drivers do this as well except with worse framerate) but I think it might have something to do with powerplay changing the clocks. -
Well changing that setting still causes powerplay to underclock the GPU. Keeps it at 100mhz/41mhz.
-
^ don't use the default HD6770M clocks which is 725/800 when u're using UnofficialOverclockingMode = 2. Change it to 726/800 something like that if u don't want to overclock.
-
-
In UnofficialOverclockingMode = 2, u can leave PowerPlay in CCC to On.. and set your clock in MSI != 725/800.
-
Guys,
I wait for your best help to succsse with my Upgrade.
I just need help.
-
-
Well, the point of UnofficialOverclockingMode = 2 is to keep the clocks freq constant which mean PowerPlay is not working eventho it is enabled in CCC.
-
-
LMAO, its up to you.
-
OpenGL apps crash when using DNA-AMD GFX 11.10.1-prev2 over stock hp clean installation.
Totally unusable for photoshop cs5. -
You would think turning it off would just keep the gpu on its default speed, but turning it off makes the clock speeds go down to 100/41.
I DONT UNDERSTAND!!lol
you'll need to use the stock HP drivers. honestly the ones that were just released are very stable. -
working great so far, just remember, upgrade only the amd graphics drivers, do not upgrade the CCC, as u wont be able to switch to the intel graphics card if you do. -
[ DNA-ATi 10.8.3.64 ( http://donotargue.com/note/dna-ati-10-8-3/ ) Anyway ]
Didn't even notice I was using 2010 version ... hmmmm?Attached Files:

I think the only way to keep the clock constant is to use overclocking mode 2 in MSI Afterburner with PowerPlay tick in CCC and not using default clocks which is 725/800.
and about the switchable thing.. that is not true.

The stock HP ones are pretty stable. That's precisely why they are made. And now they have a new driver out (9-16-2011).
Generally, searching for a stable driver and talking about "preview" releases, is simply asking for trouble. If stability is what you're looking for, HP official drivers are your best bet. The only problem is, that they released every 4 months or so.
That said though, I'm on DNA 11.8.3 over the latest stock HP drivers, and it's working great till now. A little bit more performance than stock. My clocks are 850/1000 @1.051V and it's super stable. Pulling 1800 in 3DMark11.
Tried 11.10 preview from DNA, but it doesn't seem to function. It probably needs the F8-at-startup trick to work. But 11.8.3 work just fine without it! Why is that? -
Btw, if u overvolt ur GPU, better avoid 11.10 drivers.
Most Stable 6770m Driver?
