Because its backlight has been malfunctioning, I brought my Pavillion into a repair shop to have it checked. They told me that it is irreparable because the motherboard was damaged.

Is it feasible to replace the motherboard, and how much could it cost?

In a laptop, any time the mobo is damaged it's time to buy a new laptop. They are just that expensive.

Realistically, you are looking about $350 or so after labor charges. That's 1/2 a laptop right there. I'm strill trying to figure out what to do with my broken one.

In all reality, the mobo will probably cost even more. Generally, it is cheaper (and more effective) to just purchase a new one.

I take it the notebook isn't under warranty any more? What model is it? If it's old enough, you might want to try eBay and see if someone is selling another damaged one that has a good motherboard. But still, the surgery will be difficult and there's no guarantee of success.

if the mobo is damged its time to buy a new laptop as its one of the main and costly parts of your laptop other than your screen and gpu until unless its still under warranty for which i would recommend that you talk to hp customer support or else if you could get another mother borad cheap from ebay that would be a good option too
