For some reason when I use the mousepad (or the little ball thing) to move the mouse on my compaq nc6000, the mouse does not move. What's wrong? How can I resolve this problem? I am not THE most tech-savvy person, but I'm okay at following directions if you could give them to me.

    Welcome to the forum,

Did this just start happening and have you tried using a usb mouse?

Make sure you didn't disable it via the keyboard(there might be a FN+Key combination to disable the mousepad and pointing stick) or Mouse properties(use a usb mouse to check the mouse property settings or try safe mode[F8 when your laptop starts up])

So you've tried the touchpad and the pointstick ("the little ball thing"). I agree with Ddawgca, try an external mouse. See if windows recognizes it or if the mouse even turns on (If it's a wired optical mouse, that is). If it's a wireless mouse, see if the receiver turns on (granted it has a light).

Also, as stated above, try safe mode. It may be tricky to get to; you may have to hit f8 several times as the machines booting to get to the boot menu, which allows you to select safe mode.

As far as I know, there is no way to disable the pointstick or the tochpad via the keyboard on this model.
