Is there any reason I could not just move the recovery partition when I get my HP so I can do a fresh install of Windows 7, but then restore to factory if I need to send it back?

I see something like this in the guide, but my case may be different as I will be using a fresh Windows 7 key.

Couldn't I theoretically move the contents of the HP partition onto a disc/flash drive, do a fresh install of Win 7 (wiping the partitions and installing Win 7 onto a single partition on the drive)... and then if I had to, just restore those files onto the drive and initiate factory restore/reset?

Using a program like Macrium Reflect or Acronis, you could image the entire drive (which includes all partitions) and archive the image to an external HDD. The wipe the drive and install a fresh copy of win7.

Also, you could simply make the recovery DVDs then wipe all partitions off the drive before installing fresh.

One thing, be sure to copy the SWsetup folder on your new HP's HDD. It contains all drivers and software that came with your computer.

BTW, Macrium is free; Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download
