    Running a quad HP HDX18t @ 2.53 ghz w/ 8gb RAM, 1gb video, dual 7200rpm 500 drives under Windows 7 64:

    Does HP have anything not only newer but clearly better yet?

    The only Quad processor on a notebook with that kind of speed is the QX9300 Extreme. At the moment, it is still one of the best processor right below the i7.
    You don't need to update anything unless you want a more power graphics card other than the 9600M GT you have.
