Just thought I would make this thread to provide some extra info for anyone in Canada looking to order computer equipment from the USA. When I was looking to order it took quite a while to find a decent seller, with reasonable prices, that shipped to Canada and accepted a Canadian credit card.
I ordered my 8510p from a website in the states called ShopBLT. I placed my order Thursday morning and they shipped it out Thursday afternoon. The first part of the shipping is via ground to their depot, the second part I choose to be FedEx international priority. They've kept me up to date every step of the way with everything thats happening regards stock and shipping. I've just received a call from FedEx (Oct 2nd) telling me that my laptop is now in Edmonton (where I live) and awaiting customs clearence, which hopefully won't take too long.

I'm very happy with my service from BLT so far and wouldn't hesistate to recommend them. I suppose I'm especially happy since I was messed around by Lenovo Canada so much. They had me waiting over a month with no information sent to me, I had to chase them for updates every step of the way. They never informed me of any of the delays they were having and because of this I cancelled my order.

Im thinking of purchasing the same notebook from them and having it sent to australia. have heard nothing but good things from them.
Im a bit unsure about HP international warranties now though. -
Hey Mr. Ric, I have been considering going the same route as you recently. Could you tell me how much the notebook came out to in the end, including shipping and passing through customs?
-
Yep the international warranties are usually a concern, luckly for me posting back to the states is not a huge amount more then posting to Canada.
I found this link had some useful information on it regards warranties:

Anyone have any idea how long this takes: Package to be cleared by FedEx broker

Seems about 200-300 less then buying it through CDW.ca. I went with CDW, they replaced my 8510w that came with an non servicible lcd in one day.
my shipping was 30 dollars. no brokerage...
If CDW dropped the same 200+ off an 8510p as they dropped off my 8510W..and brokarage costs you anything, you will have paid more for your laptop from the states then from them. -
Why would CDW drop $200 off the 8510p? By my calculations I saved just over $400 by buying from the US and received a larger hard drive, WWAN card and wireless N.
-
I dont know, they dropped over 200 off my 8510w.
You never posted your specs or your price, I just looked at the cheapest 8510p on both sites.
In looking at total cost of ownership, the biggest advantage I could find for ordering from the states was being able to get a tighter match to the config I wanted including XP installed.
The price difference wasnt a big deal once I found CDW. -
You just scared me when you said I could end up paying more for ordering from the US! That would have been bad.
-
Depends what your brokerage costs are.
You will like your notebook... -
I did the same thing except shipped it to the US address and brought it across the border. Saved quite a bit :O

Unless we are talking about the CTO 8510P we were talking about before. that is still a real possibility. Have you got any personal experience with the RQ555AV model? -

If you really want, you can purchase an HP CarePack in your country of residence.
My 8510p is almost here! (Shipped to Canada from USA)
