    My 8710w is overheating A LOT

    So yeah, bought a 8710w around november last year, and it started overheating about 3 months ago while playing some team fortress 2. After that it's just been getting worse and it's currently impossible to play any games like World of Wacraft, Counter-Strike:Source, Bioshock, Crysis etc etc for longer than like 10-20 minutes without the laptop overheating. (Around 97-98°C on GPU/CPU).

    Tried with the latest graphics drivers, BIOS and chipset drivers, nothing changed. Speedfan and similiar programs doesn't work, can't find any interresting things to clock down graphics card etc in the BIOS.

    At the moment I got the laptop on top of some books etc so there shouldn't be any problems with getting air into the laptop, also, every time I wanna play some games I have to turn on a pretty powerful table fan and point it at my laptop. This is the version with quadro 1600m.

    Tried to send an e-mail to HP, they just said that "since the laptop worked fine when I wasn't playing games, there could be nothing wrong with the computer itself, try updating BIOS, graphics card drives and chipset drivers."

    That helped exactly nothing at all, no idea what to do now. Don't really feel like starting to open the laptop and possibly destroying some warranty etc eighter. :(

    Its overheating because of the dust buildup in the heatsink after months of use. Try blowing the dust out with a can of compressed air

    I have a similar model and it shiftet me to a warning screen for overheating (98 C) while playing World In Conflict 2 days after purchase. It is brand new.

    The GPU heatsink contact point could be bad. Either that or your laptop is badly ventilated.
