I hadn't used my baby for 14 days and I was not happy when I plugged her in and got no response, nothing, bloody nothing, just the power cord light and total deep sleep.
The next day I took my time and thoroughly checked that AC adapter was properly connected and powered up,instant success,my baby was awake and responded beautifully for 3 hours.
Two days later I got baby out again, and using the previous procedure powered up,no response, deep sleep again,so I left the power on went and used my desktop.About 3 hours later I heard baby's Windows bootup sounds, she was awake again, and I operated her for about 2 hours.
The next day baby would not start again, and for the last ten days I have been trying to wake her up,I even bought a new battery, the power into the machine is fine, the new battery charged up(I checked it on a friends machine),the AC adapter is OK(checked with multimeter 18.5V and 3.5A)I have held it upside down holding the Power Button,Reset the Ram and the CMOS battery, discharged static buildup, and taken her to local Computer Repairer, all with no result.
Can somebody help me wake her up? She is only 22 months old,and I'm hoping she hasn't got a serious motherboard problem.

I believe your problem may have to do with the magnetic strip when u open the lid. It may not be telling the pc the lid is open thats why it wont wake

Thank you Richierichdollar,I had been looking for a lid lock but found no mention in Service Manual, could please enlighten me to where I should look for the magnetic strip,is access inside the machine, should I replace or repair?
I was starting to think I had a Post problem and was about to strip the machine and look for a wiring problem or a faulty inverter. -

Couple ideas how to find the magnetic partThe switch is obviously on the top cover and you can see if it works by swinging a magnet over the correct spot.

I have partially disassembled my CQ61 but have found no sign of a magnetic switch although I have found what looks like a pressure switch of which I have attached photos.
I will disassemble some more and see what I can find.Attached Files:

I have now done a complete dissassemble of the bottom section of my CQ61 and I'm none the wiser except, I now have formed the following conclusions.
1.There is no magnetic lid switch.
2.If there was a magnetic switch,it would be in the OFF position and my laptop
should start.
3.I have no idea how the apparent button I have found works.
4.I have inspected my Son's HP laptop and found no magnetic Lid Switch.
5.I suspect HP do not use a Magnetic Lid Switch System.
6.I think this machine is looking to become a source for spare partsAttached Files:

As a last resort to find a magnet, I have now dismantled my display screen
(not as hard as was expecting) and behold, after much inspection I found a
magnet on the underside of the Display Bezel (see pics) in a position where I had not looked or tested.
With this find I was confident it would be easy to find a Reed Switch or Hall
effect latch switch, but no evidence on either is to be found, the only clue to how the magnet works is the Powerboard,if nobody can explain how the magnet
operates as a lid switch I will replace the PowerboardAttached Files:
