Sorry about the Title, but I own a compaq v2000 2374AP Laptop and since last one month iam struggling with the heating problems.
I also installed a few hardware monitors and found CPU temp. spikes
upto 95°C,if i would have waited 5° more i would have it transformed into a COOKTOP at the this boiling point i hope.
I opened the Laptop a month ago, cleaned the FAN, even added some more Thermal Paste but the issue will not solve.
I belong to a small town and my LT is out of warranty so i managed to have it repaired at local service station who didn't do anything and charged me the service charge and upon the complaint they again want to bill me. but lets keep this aside as I don't have time to go and argue, they have proved their worth already.
Now the technical part.
cpu Temp. is fine during initial 10-20 minutes, then it reaches 50°C and starts rising promptly, The fan earlier used to start its work at this level but now FAN DOESN'T START, Sometime around 60-65°C the fan starts but stops even before the temprature goes down,
Its running Windows XP SP3, recently re-installed.
512MB RAM
Not much application as my primary task needs only browser and SSH only.
Any one with such an example, before, what was the solution you found
Thanks for you Help.

Added some more thermal paste? That might be the problem... Did you clean the old thermal paste first?
-
Yeah, it has to be an extremely thin layer or the paste will actually cause more of a problem.
Have you tried reloading the latest BIOS from HP?
It almost sounds like you have sensor or communication error where the fan isn't getting the correct signal. This assumes the fan is OK and not having problems. If the fan is old, maybe it is time to replace it? -
HEP: yes i cleaned up before adding the new paste.
Iam running the BIOS version which is still latest in 2 yrs.
XVVVZ: Iam
i can't find any sensor near the Heatsink or CPU, i searched a lot and found the temp sensor is built inside the CPU itself.
Any way to test the FAN, although it does run Sometimes but not as much as it used to run earlier.
If the fan is faulty how comes it runs sometimes is strange.
Any suggestions.
My CookTop i mean Laptop heats up a lot.
