Hi all, just wanted to share the news, got my new special edition dv2700t, it looks awesome, did just a basic gpu-z test. I was really happy to find out that i got the GDD3 version 8400m GS with 600MHz Memory Clock default.
![]()
The WEI shows a really good mark aswell, 4.0, as far as i knew most 8400m GS were showing only 3.2 or smthing.
Played CounterStrike Source, everything on high, 2X AA, 4X AS, 1280x800 res. Smooth! Will try to get get some 3DMark06 Scores in soon. Will be installing COD4 and Gears of War in a bit too, still unstalling all the preinstalled bloatware
!
The laptop as a whole performs really fast and flawlessly.
Cheers,
Mith

congrats, Im still waiting for mine, should be by tuesday
do you know if ALL the correct drivers are available to put xp on the 2700's? I want to use xp on mine but only if it will be the same exact computer(AKA everything works the same or better) -
same specs as mine, i only got 3.6 for graphics on WEI. Im on the updated video drivers aswell (169.09). Does yours have more memory DDR3 or something? same model though. What drivers are you using?
I suggest a clean install instead of removing bloatware, youll get a major increase in performance and system responsiveness
I did a clean install last night I tried playing source this morning aswell. Worked fine on widescreen max res on 2xAA. Awesome card, hasnt given me troubles so far -
Thanks all.
No i am not aware of the XP compitable drivers, i know Vista is a pain in the butt, but hey XP will become obsolete soon, therefore i am sticking to Vista as i would advise you to do the same too.
I have the 128MB Vram GS, do you have the same? I got 4.0 using HP preinstalled vista nvidia drivers (i believe it was 159.smthin).
Now i have installed the modded 169.28 Vista drivers from laptopvideo2go.com (google "16928_vista.exe" if you want a proper link as it is wrongly written on laptopvideo2go forum), my new WEI score is 4.1 and i am loving it.
I would have cleaned installed vista like the sticky guide we have here at nbr but dont have the guts/patients if anything goes wrong to correct it, so sticking to what HP gave me preinstalled.
Played COD4, 1280x800, low in most other options except Glow and a few others, but this is such a sweeet game! Very minor cuts at times but doesnt ruin the fun. Still downloading 3DMark06 will put up my results in a few hours.
Cheers,
Mith -
Weird.. I downloaded my modded drivers 169.09 from laptopvideo2go aswell. Ill try download 169.28 later. I think your version of the 8400M must have more memory cause mine only says 64mb dedicated on the box.
You should really consider doing a clean install, its so easy and youll love it. Id say its up to 30% faster from what HP gives you preinstalled. I just bought this laptop yesterday. I burnt the recovery disks and backed up my drivers and went ahead with the clean install. I finished testing everything and its all working 100% with no issues whatsoever -
flipfire, its 30% faster wow....interesting...i gotta try it out...i tried out a dv2700t in a local store...has 2gb ram, t7250 proc, the 128mb nvidia card...it was not as fast as it should have been...
congrats bro on your new lappie btw.. -
Weird.
My 64MB version gets a higher gaming score but a lower vista score. Odd. Same specs as yours, but the memory. Oh, and mine shows that it has an 800mhz shader. -
that is pretty sweet for a compact laptop!
-
Left one is yours (128mb). Right one is mine (64mb). HP must have added more RAM on the 8400GS for more recent models. =/ Though my shader goes up to 800mhz aswell or it could just be your drivers are old and didnt support 800mhz yet
Im upgrading soon to 2x2gb Corsair value select RAM, they have it on sale over here for $165AU delivered. Hopefully i will see increased overall performance specially on gaming. Ill still be sticking to 32bit Vista
Will let you know how it goes. Just waiting for payday! -
There is version 171.16... that is NOT ok for the dv2637tx. Installed 169.09 but the GPU score in Vista is still 3.5.
Maybe a bit off topic here... where does someone get 64-bit Vista Home Premium in AU to replace the 32-bit Vista from HP? I got 2 x 2GB Kingston off ebay from HK for about AUD120 incl postage. Vista 32-bit only recognise 3GB RAM. The system BIOS recognises 4096MB RAM. -
arinko I tried the 171.16 just yesterday it worked fine with no bugs on cs:source. Quite stable. Though I rolled back to the 169.09 cause i felt it had better performance on gaming. I never benchmarked it though
If you want a 64bit OS youll need to get a 64bit Vista install/retail disc (you dont need to buy a new licence/cd-key as you can use the one you have now). Its just the disc your after, which is cheap just hard to find. Then youll need to get drivers for 64bit vista which is available on the hp website
Can you give me the link for the 2x2gb RAM on ebay? Im from Aust aswell. -

I bought 2 for AUD48.99 each as I did a 'buy now' option plus combined postage come to AUD119.96. The price has gone down a bit. On each of the RAM package is the LABEL of the Kingston authorised distributor in HK. Purchased Sunday last week and got it on Friday.
EDIT::
Just bought one similar QuickDock off ebay

Thanks alot, i just purchased a pair due to its cheap price. Total amount was $108 delivered
Wont be arriving till next week though, paypal takes 3 days to clear =/ -
I waited till i got my 3Dmark06 scores in, and here it is 1829! is that pretty good for a 8400m GS? I kept eveything default, res. 1280x800 is that the correct procedure? In a few reviews I saw that ati X1600/X1700 were receiving 1831'ish scores (with 2.0GHz Proc.), does that mean my rig is performing upto x1600 levels?
Flip i will do the vista clean installation as you suggested, thanks.
Navin were you getting the same 3DMark scores with your previous XPS?
Thanks all -
According to this this website http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVidia-GeForce-8400M-GS.3709.0.html the max is 1645 but according to another website it says we should be getting around 1900
Where can i get 3dMark06? Can you give me the link so i can benchmark mine? -
You will find 3DMark06 download links from
http://www.futuremark.com/download/?3dmark06.shtml -
mythamp could you please post your scores once you are done with the clean Vista installation?! I will be getting a similar laptop and am in a dilemma as far as the clean installation is concerned. Have seen many posts on it but the percentage improvement in performance seems a kind of exaggeration to me. The scores that you would publish should prove or dismiss these estimates once and for all.
-
A clean install wont improve your 3dmark scores much since its mostly tests your gfx cards capabilities but everything will run faster and responsive on a clean install.
I get a 30second boot up time from the time i press the ON button to windows login screen then an extra 15seconds or so to load my desktop
What games are you expecting to play or use the laptop for? I might be able to let you know
I think ill download 3dmark06 later.. its 580mb too big and im near going past my download limit -
I don't play games. I am more of a web designer and web surfer. Photoshop is what I use at times. Music is a must. And that should probably be it.
-
congratualtions on your new 2700. I am looking at this or getting the hp compaq 6910 for my son in college. (had some student insurance that coveredd his old sony when he spilled water on it).
I can get the 6910 slightly used or the 2700 around the same price. His current sony is 15.4 inch and build and weighs like a tank. he wants something lighter but thinks the 13.3 screens are too small.
he doesnt play any games so I dont know if he needs the discrete graphics. though you do loose the hdmi output if you dont get it. for the price it seems worth it but Im wondering how it affects battery life?
Did any of you get the upper end dvd player that supports high def. Im wondering if it is only HD and not blue ray. How do you find the weight and sturdiness of the machine and keyboard.
Thank you -
I get about an hour and a half from a standard 6cell battery. It usually drains about 1% a minute so around under 100mins. You can get over 3hours life with the 12cell battery except its bigger and heavier. It weighs in at 2.49kilos with the standard battery
Having a discrete graphics doesnt really affect your battery life unless your playing games or putting alot of load on it. It will only eat as much battery as it needs too.
You might be abit dissapointed at the battery life and weight of the dv2000 series. I was a little dissapointed at first but its performance made me overlook through it. -
flipfire, you got your 4GB RAM already? What brand of usb stick are you using for the 4GB readyboost?
-
No not yet, i just updated my signature ahead. Thanks for the RAM link again, you saved me money. They said theyll send it as soon as payment clears on wednesday. How long did it take you to recieve the RAM from them(HK)?
Also i bought my quickdock from the same seller you linked, except i luckily won it for the starting bids price.
Im using a 4gb sandisk cruzer micro at the moment, its specially enhanced for Vistas readyboost. Readyboost doesnt really make much of a difference to be honest, i just had this usb drive lying around.
http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(1925)-SDCZ6-4096-A10-SanDisk_Cruzer_Micro_4GB_Black.aspx
Click on Enhanced for readyboost on the left hand side menu for more info -
I got the QuickDock for AUD33+aud16 for P+P = AUD49. Someone bid over AUD50 for the one after mine.
I bought the ram on Saturday 12th, sent out on Monday, got it on last Friday and paid it by paypal. 5 days? MSY out of stock of all 2GB ddr2 sodimms - transcend (AUD55), apacer (AUD55) and kingstons (AUD72). -
Are transcend and Kingston good enough? I intend to buy them soon too!
-
Let me re frame my question. Which is better Kingston or Transcend?
-
It doesnt matter which brand ram you get as they all perform pretty much the same, just get the best price. Read the RAM thread somewhere here, it will tell you why
Id go with transcend through, alot of people here seem to prefer it. Make sure you get one with lifetime warranty and run mem86+ tester on it -
Can somebody send me some pictures of dv2700SE?
I just ordered and I cant wait to come. I want to see how it looks.
My email adress is [email protected]
Thanks -
We do have several reviews on the DV2000 series seen here:
http://www.notebookreview.com/revie...lastBrandID=8¤tPage=0&callingPage=&cmd=
The only real difference between the verve and these models are the imprint design. Just google dv2500 Verve for real photos.
Heres the review for the artistic edition: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4339
My DV2700TSE is here!
