So I had the chance to go to Best Buy and play with a DV5T and compare it to the regular DV6xxT series. Here are some first impressions of the system of the DV5T:
1) Infinity screen is not glass. It's plastic. It fairly cheap in honest opinion. If you push on the infinity plastic screen, it will push inwards and you can see the ripples on the actual LCD screen as if you are actually touching the screen with your own finger. I think I like the idea of an infinite screen only in that the dust wont get caught in that little area between the screen and framing (Annoying).
Other than that, the infinite screen is nice and glossy and reflective.
(I tried to scratch the screen to see how durable it is, but I had no sharp object.)
2) System lighting around the notebook is white now. The power chord has a mini white light next to it. It's like macbook white. Also, the new media touch sensor buttons are interesting. They are the same as before but this time, there is a clear mirror coating on the surface and about 1 cm underneath, you can actually see the light source beneath (especially on the quickplay button). But that is only if you are looking at the buttons straight on from the top.
On the back of the main display where the onyx design can be found on the laser etched panel, you'll be greeted with the HP logo on the bottom right where it shines with a back light. The light isn't exactly like white but more like a blueish- tint to the lighting. It's sort of like the apple logo on their notebooks shining with a light.
3) Mouse buttons (Left and Right) are nice and feels very well built. They are sturdy in that they don't feel flimsy like the original DV6xxT.
Since the entire mouse track pad isnt centered with the space bar and it's more to the right, when typing, I tend to accidentally touch the pad with my hand/palm and trigger the mouse to move away from place where I should be typing. I find this so annoying. Luckily, while typing on the DV5T, I did not experience this at all! Somone please confirm this with me as I only got to test this aspect for a short time.
4) The Onyx design is like a bunch of tiny perfectly align squares (Man-ly). I like this design the most as it suits me better than radiance or verve or those other fancy ones.
5) Keyboard feel great and I found that it doesn't make a lot of noise while typing.
6) Express card slot is now on the left. (No personal preference)
7) The metal color is very very very Chrome looking. It not like the DV6xxT models where there is this tint of gray in it. The DV5T is basically the color of T1000 in terminator - Highly reflective. Highly chrome looking.
8) WiFi switch is now part of the multi touch sensors along with the media buttons.
Overall, I found that the DV5T is worth the switch from the older DV6500T that I currently have.
The model that I was playing with at the store was
- 4GB of Ram
- 9600M GT
- 1280x800 Infinite screen
- Vista SP1
- 2.0 GHz
I Think that I am going to switch over to the DV5T.
Please feel free to add more to the list and your experience with the DV5T.

Well this was at Best Buy. I was shopping for a new stereo system and remembered someone said on these forums that the DV5T was up in Best buy now so I thought I check it out.
I got no pictures of the system as I did not have a camera on me. How odd is it to be taking pictures of a computer at a store like Best Buy.
And yes, since phone at store are for display and testing purposed before you actually buy one, I decided to take it to my advantage before buying one and being disappointed afterwards. Besides who else would something like this for a community like us! =)
Someone's gotta be brave to test it right?
