My HP DV4 (in sig) fell off a table today. And the best part is, I wasn't there when it fell. I was told that if fell flat on all four of its rubber legs and a small mirror fell on top of it and skidded across the floor somehow. The table is about 3 feet from the ground and I don't see a visible damage any where on the laptop. The only damage I see is on the tip of the charger. The part that goes into the laptop is a little bent but when I plug into the laptop, it charges fine. The laptop was completely shut down when it fell.

The time to boot-up was the same. Everything seems fine when I use it and appears to be OK (typing on it right now). Is there anything I should check to make sure?

If there's no visible damage, the only thing that really could possibly be damaged would be the hard drive, and if it wasn't spinning that's probably fine as well.

You could run a scan on your drive and see if any bad sectors come up, up to you.

How would I check for bad sectors?

    You don't. The software does.

Just right click on the drive properties, go to tools, run a full scan

My HP fell off a desk about the same height about a year ago. I haven't had any issues. Unless you start noticing your computer acting differently I wouldn't worry about it.

I think I found a problem, the DVD drive won't read any blank DVD-R's I put in. It starts to spin, then after a while it just stops and doesn't do anything. I used to be able to burn data to these DVD's before without any problem.
