Virtually all laptops sold in the world is made in China/Taiwan, Malaysia. They ship it directly from there to the buyer. Even if you buy from a local retailer, the laptop is actually shipped to them from China. Many manufacturers hide this fact but HP doesn't.

I guess I was the luck one of the recent orders. Mine shipped from China on the 12th, showed up at FedEx in Memphis, TN this morning (the 15th), was in my hot little hands in Kennett Square, PA by 3:30, I love FedEx!

Mine shipped last Friday and I received it Monday morning at 8:52 AM. I find it funny, but for a couple days on the FedEx tracking it showed the notebook route included Almaty Kazakhstan. They removed it from the list later which I found strange I guess they had to stop and get fuel.

    Route:

Shanghi China > Almaty Kazakhstan > Paris France > Memphis TN > Phoenix AZ

What I meant was, why didnt you just buy it domestically. Like from a online dealer like CDW, NewEgg, TigerDirect, etc. I find you can save a lot of money by not buying it directly from HP. I got my DV1000 (1.7 Centrino) for less than $1050. No need for rebates.

Yes in general, but there are cases when buying directly works out cheaper than getting it from the retailers. In my case, I ordered it with the same spec as a retail version of the laptop & it worked out to be about $150 cheaper than buying it from any of the retailers at that time.
