    I have a Windows 7 Compaq Presario CQ61 64-Bit Operating System.

It all started when I was on Youtube and all of a sudden all the videos I've been watching were very slow, and even some programs I was running such as Audacity, Sony Vegas, Malwarebytes, etc.

I opened up the Task Manager and noticed the CPU Usage was 100%, I restarted and all of a sudden my laptop kept shutting down on its own, I thought it was the battery because it did say it needed to be replaced, I replace the new battery and apparently it wasn't it. I turn my computer on again and got a blue error screen like this

    http://www.maximumpc.com/files/u69/BSOD_Main.png

Might not be the same specific error, but I did get an error screen like that.

Anyway, I tried System Restore, nothing works. I try to run my Malwarebyte Antimalware program in Safe Mode, it keeps shutting off on me. I don't know what to do, I've had this laptop running fine and kept it updated for the past 3 and a half years now. I really don't want to lose anything I have there.

Any help you give me will very much appreciated.

probably RAM about to die, pull out a stick of RAM at a time and see if it changes anything. or try instal windows, although this doesnt not sound like a software issue, more of a hardware

edit: seems like driver issue after looking at that blue screen, check here

    UPDATE!

So far, I used System Restore again and it hasn't been shutting down like it was yesterday. I'm not really sure, but could it be that it has something to do with the Windows Update I got this week? Because I set back a couple of days before the update THREE TIMES, updated Windows THREE TIMES, and kept shutting off.

I set back again, ignore the Windows Update and it seems to be doing fine.

Also the bottom of my laptop gets VERY HOT and every once in a while I hear a small popping noise somewhere inside. I know my fan is clogged with dust, but I don't know where to find a tutorial on how to open the ventilation to clean, I don't want to take it anywhere to get it fixed. Please help...

Hey, man, relax! You can't really talk like that on forums. Sometimes you've got to have some patience to get responses. I opened the laptop on my own and clean the fan and it still gets pretty hot. SOMETHING must be taking up too much memory on the laptop. Not sure what it is, but so far, not even Malwarebytes detects anything unusual... I guess my laptop is getting ready to kick the bucket.

The cheaper cq and g series laptops are plagued by overheating and poor thermal design. You can try to blow air into the back of the computer so it blows the dirt and debris into the fan section and back out the intake vent on the bottom of the computer. Though most of the time it builds up and it looks like a wad of lint you would empty from the lint trap in your clothes dryer. If that's the case then you need to take the computer apart to clear the blockage.

Here's a generic tutorial on how to disassemble the laptop.

How to remove motherboard from Compaq Presario CQ50, CQ60 or CQ70 laptop >> Inside my laptop

When you get the motherboard out don't take off the heatsink, you can remove the fan without removing the heatsink to clean the inside of the heatsink assembly. Clean it and throw it back together.

Yes, that is exactly what I did. I disassembled my laptop last night and took the fan off the motherboard. There was a truckload of dust covering the vent, which is why the laptop overheats. So I cleaned it, placed everything back and everything works like a charm. So really I appreciate your reply and thank you very much. I really thought I had to get rid of my laptop. Heh Cheers!
